Not everyone can go to college and get their license when they would like to go. I am a single mother that goes to school and works full-time. I thank God daily that Gene Gandy is my instructor and he is such a wonderful instructor and person in general. It is true that if you want something bad enough you will get it. Sometimes it just takes time. Sometimes you need a little extra help and understanding from other people. For the ones who think they are Para-Gods just because they have their license, they better step back and remember what they are first. EMT's. We all started out as the same thing and we all are still the same regardless whether we are licensed or not. & gt;Reply-To: egroups & gt;From: " kelly bryan " & lt;kasyd@... & gt; & gt;To: egroups & gt;Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 19:40:51 PST & gt;Subject: [texasems-L] Re: Higher pay with LIC-P. & gt; & gt;DONN & gt; & gt;i want to start this off by saying i agree with you that if you want it & gt;bad enough you will find away, no excuses. But you have to realize a & gt;few factors, for one I am a certified medic, my husband is a medic as & gt;well and both of us want to get our license. We have kids, guess who & gt;gets to go to school first and who stays home and watches the kids? You & gt;guessed it! Little ole' me. I'm not bitching and I am not " holding " & gt;back the proffession but I am doing the best that I can and I know a lot & gt;of female medics who are in my shoes, the man is the bread winner so you & gt;new licensed medics need to give everyone a chance to better themselves & gt;before you start drawing lines on who deserves more of what. Check some & gt;of the posts, there are already comments. I'm just asking everyone to & gt;be patient and let some time go by before they start making those & gt;comments, people get defensive, I would if I was trying and not quite & gt;there yet. Just don't let this divide everyone. You know ems folks are & gt;very proud. & gt; & gt;kelly & gt;emt-p & gt; & gt; & gt; & gt;From -return-2439-kasyd=hotmail.comreturns (DOT) Thu & gt;Feb 11 16:15:40 1999 & gt; & gt;Received: from [127.0.0.1] by mc.findmail.com with NNFMP; 12 Feb 1999 & gt;00:14:24 -0000 & gt; & gt;Mailing-List: contact -owneregroups & gt; & gt;Precedence: list & gt; & gt;X-URL: /list// & gt; & gt;X-Mailing-List: egroups & gt; & gt;Reply-To: egroups & gt; & gt;Delivered-To: listsaver-egroups-egroups & gt; & gt;Received: (qmail 5997 invoked by uid 7770); 12 Feb 1999 00:13:58 -0000 & gt; & gt;Received: from centex.centex.net (208.6.234.10) & gt; & gt; by vault.findmail.com with SMTP; 12 Feb 1999 00:13:58 -0000 & gt; & gt;Received: from h3a2q3 (ppp202.centex.net [208.6.234.202]) & gt; & gt; by centex.centex.net (8.9.1/8.9.1) with SMTP id SAA22354 & gt; & gt; for & lt;egroups & gt;; Thu, 11 Feb 1999 18:15:28 -0600 (CST) & gt; & gt;Message-ID: & lt;00ce01be561d$5e763cc0$caea06d0@h3a2q3 & gt; & gt; & gt;From: " Donn & amp; Marilyn " & lt;phud@... & gt; & gt; & gt;To: & lt;egroups & gt; & gt; & gt;Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 18:19:34 -0600 & gt; & gt;MIME-Version: 1.0 & gt; & gt;X-Priority: 3 & gt; & gt;X-MSMail-Priority: Normal & gt; & gt;X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.1 & gt; & gt;X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3155.0 & gt; & gt;Subject: [texasems-L] Re: Higher pay with LIC-P. & gt; & gt;Content-Type: text/html; charset= " iso-8859-1 " & gt; & gt;Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit & gt; & gt; & gt; & gt; & gt; & lt;table & gt; & lt;tr & gt; & lt;td & gt; & lt;pre & gt; & gt;To begin with, I wish you would sign your post so that I would know how & gt;to & gt;address my reply. I know you've posted here before as I recognize you & gt;email & gt;address, but I don't remember your name. & gt; & gt;As far as a licensed paramedic being able to work a code any " better " & gt;than & gt;an EMT-P, this is kind of a silly question. I find myself wondering why & gt;you & gt;would even ask such a question. As has been eloquently stated in the & gt;past, & gt;given enough time a reasonably adept orangutan could be taught to work & gt;the & gt;ACLS algorithms. There is no true understanding involved in working a & gt;code & gt;by algorithm, only rote memorization. & gt; & gt;List members have gone over this and similar questions in the past to & gt;the & gt;point that I thought everyone understood the rational for licensure by & gt;now. & gt;It is a first, small step toward what we hope will be greater & gt;professional & gt;acceptance by our fellows in allied healthcare. Enhanced educational & gt;requirements will be what separates the wheat from the chafe in our & gt;profession. & gt; & gt;You complain that you were " unable to take the extra classes needed' to & gt;qualify for licensure. Why were you unable to do so? Are you still & gt;unable? & gt;If so, why? And would you hold back the entire profession just because & gt;you & gt;can't make it for some reason or another? I don't want to be critical of & gt;you & gt;personally, but your post bears a strong resemblance to a bunch of sour & gt;grapes. & gt; & gt;Most people who make this argument say they can't afford to go back to & gt;school. Either the time or the expense of getting the necessary degree & gt;is & gt;preventing them from being able to move forward. I say hogwash to both. & gt;If & gt;you want it bad enough you will find the way. It can be done if one has & gt;the & gt;proper tools. You have one tool sitting in front of right now. It is & gt;possible to get both undergraduate and graduate degrees these days and & gt;never & gt;leave the comfort of home. Internet classes and other modes of distance & gt;education are becoming commonplace. There are scholarships and grants & gt;available if you don't have the money. In short, there is no reason why & gt;you & gt;can't become a licensed paramedic if you truly want to. & gt; & gt;I don't have a degree either, yet I want to be licensed. I shall find a & gt;way & gt;to gain the degree - one way or another. I will continue to be a thorn & gt;in & gt;the side of the educators around the state until I am finally able to & gt;sew & gt;that a gold trimmed paramedic patch on my shoulder. If you care about & gt;the & gt;future of our profession, you will find a way too. & gt; & gt;Regards, & gt;Donn & gt;-- -- & gt;D.E. I know some basics I'd rather have work on & gt;me & gt;than & gt; & amp;gt;the Emt -P and they don't even have P or the red & gt;patch............now all & gt; & amp;gt;those that had the time and money for college and was able to obtain & gt;a & gt; & amp;gt;degree.............POOF, is now smarter and a better medic than & gt;myself, wow & gt; & amp;gt;I'm impressed. & gt; & amp;gt; & gt; & amp;gt;At least pick a new subject. & gt; & amp;gt; & gt; & amp;gt;Emt-P & gt; & amp;gt; & gt; & amp;gt;--------------------------------------------------------------------\ ---- & gt; & amp;gt;What's everyone looking at?
