Guest guest
Hi Angie, I am no physician or expert, but from what you are describing it sounds as if you have a fungal infection/colonization in your lungs. The treatment for this is avoidance of moldy places and antifungal medication..in most instances. You might want to visit the Aspergillus Trust website. _www.aspergillus.org.uk/index.html_ (http://www.aspergillus.org.uk/index.html) Plus they have a chatboard of those who have primarily pulmonary conditions indicative of fungal colonizations, _AspergillusSupport@..._ (mailto:AspergillusSupport@...) . But all in all, you have come to the right place for advice. This board will help you more than any mainstream, mycotically uneducated physician that you will most likely encounter in your quest for wellness. This board fully understands the implications and the integrated measures necessary to achieve a level of wellness after an excessive exposure to molds and the toxins they may produce. Lay person speaking, it sounds to me like you need some antifungals. Sharon Hi everyone, I just joined and I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me. I was exposed to mold in a house I lived in for a year and a half. My lungs have been burning since back in the fall and I moved out of the place in December. I first noticed the burning when the weather started to turn cold because it hurt to breathe in when I went on walks. I don't cough but I almost feel like I'm on the verge of it but it would be such a dry cough it would not relieve anything. Hmmm, honestly, it's almost like a burning/itchy feel. I kept thinking this would clear up when the weather warmed up but it hasn't. I also had a reallllly bad rash on my back that I saw the dermatologist for before I moved from the moldy house. She gave me an antibiotic prescription and another prescription for some sort of cream or lotion for acne. I bought that but never opened it. I know antibiotics are the worst thing to combine with anything fungal and I wanted to wait and see if it would clear up after I moved. Sure enough, it took a few months but my back is now clear. Funny how the doctor couldn't make the connection even though I told her the place was moldy. I kept hoping I would have the same luck with my lungs and they would feel better but that problem hasn't cleared and my lungs still burn. Since I have been exposed to mold, I'm thinking that the best treatment for me may be a systemic antifungal but I doubt that is a treatment many doctors offer. My guess is that most would be more inclined to treat symptoms than to go after the cause. Of course, I'm not certain since this is a new thing for me so I want to find a knowledgable doctor to help me and, hopefully, clear up whatever is going on with my lungs before it turns into something really bad and permanent...permanent...<WBR>if it's not already. This is out of expertise for all of my other doctors. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good doctor? I'm willing to drive for a good one. Thanks, Angie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
Hey Angie!! Welcome to the group! I had that burning in my lungs as well when I lived in my mold house and up until a few months ago. I am seeing Dr Tanner in Roswell, Ga. In case you don't know, Roswell is just outside of Atlanta so you being from Charlotte, you will avoid the Atlanta traffic. I am from and this is about a 2 hour drive for me. I have not yet started on my treatment, with the exception of a treatment for my sinus fungus. I really like her and she is very intelligent. She listened to my zillions of ailments and was so understanding about what I have been through. Most doctors walk out after the first complaint but not her. She listened until I was finished talking! I posted her website somewhere on this group. I will try to find it. If I don't find it tonight, remind me tomorrow and I will look for it..I am very very sleepy but a great big lizard is in my bed...<CRYING>...I never get sleepy and the one night I am sleepy, a lizard is making my life miserable by weaving himself in and out of my covers!!! I don't want to sleep with a lizard! I don't know how to catch lizards and I don't want to catch lizards!! <crying more>! I wish my husband was home! I need someone to get this lizard out of my bed before I have a hissy fit!!! But, anyway, you will love Dr Tanner..here is her phone number: 678-218-4230 She is an enviromental doctor and is knows all about the treatments you will see others talk about on here and plus more!! Well, I guess I am off to sleep on the couch..crying more because I just got a new mattress that I can't sleep on because of the lizard! > > Hi everyone, I just joined and I'm hoping someone here may be able > to help me. Guest guest
Dr Lieberman does not take any kind of insurance at all. I tried to get a ball park figure of how much treatment will cost but the receptionist on the phone would not tell me anything. According to what I got on the internet from their website, it was more than I can afford and most people on this group can afford. I hear he is a great doctor but one needs to have losts of $$$$$$ to see him! --- In , jane mosher <janeannmosher@...> wrote: > > dr. lieberman is in the charleston area--north charleston in particular and dr. paul cheney is in asheville. >
Guest guest
Hi Amgie, I also have the burning ,dry cough, and rash on back which gets better but doesn't go away, it gets aggervated and reaccures because I often get fevers around my upper back neck and head area. I did go through a herbal detox which gave me some lung compasity back. however it didn't cure me and I still have lung infections. antifungals hopefully would do better but I haven't got to try that yet so I'm not much help but just wanted to let you know that your symptoms in the lungs are the same as mine. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get the medical attn. you need ss soon as possible. > > Hi everyone, I just joined and I'm hoping someone here may be able > to help me. Guest guest
Jackie, I was able to get some information in regards to cost. The upfront fee is $450 and it covers a 3 hour appointment. The first hour is spent with someone who takes a complete medical history. From there, I'm not certain if you spent 1 or 2 hours with the doctor. After that, it costs $150 an hour for the doctor, $75 for a half hour and $50 for 15 minutes. I don't know the cost for testing but I think they send you that information in the intro they send to you. I'm supposed to have a packet mailed out to me. It would definitely be better for me if he was covered by insurance because I can't work due to a heart condition caused by Lyme Disease. I'm on disability so funds are very limited. My lungs were working fine until that house and I want to preserve what health I have so I'm going to have to cut back significantly because this appointment is very important to me. By the way, I've seen some chronic fatigue doctors in this area and, compared to them, Dr. Lieberman is very, very reasonably priced. The CFS doctors are around $350 and hour out of pocket and they want you to come back every 3-4 months. I can't do that so I've decided to see them no more than once a year but my last apt was $500. I'm still paying for it and all that happened was that they took notes on my condition. If Lieberman is good, I may just completely switch to him even though he's 3 hours away because he's so much more affordable. I was told that he will also do phone appointments and they are the same as his regular rate. That saves gas or hotels so I'm all for that as well.
