I'm meeting with my dr. tomorrow and will ask about this test. I'm printing some of the info that has been posted in the last couple of days. It may prove to be helpful. Just a question though... what is the reason for eating so many carbs in the 2-3 days before a c-peptide or fasting glucose test?

I was quoting off-the-cuff from a web site I found by a lab that does these tests, which emphasized that - to ensure accuracy - one needed to set each patient up in as similar a condition as the others. Take two patients - one is a newly-diagnosed diabetic who has been eating 1200 calories a day, who is tested at 9:15 am and hasn't eaten for 14 hours. Another is tested at 2 pm, an hour after eating a Personal Pan Pizza with the works. I believe the idea is for subjects to offer a " challenge " to their bodies in the form of a fairly-normal carbohydrate intake, then withdraw food for a set number of hours, then have the patient drink a measured amount of glucose, in order to standardize the results. That is the way glucose tolerance tests are (supposed to be) administered. But it's been months since I read that site. I will be curious to see what instructions the doctor's office gives you to follow prior to the test. I am fuzzy about all the details, but I do recall specifically that if one person is tested fasting and another tested on a full stomach, the C-peptide results will indeed be " random " (i.e., not very meaningful).
