Guest guest
Iooloo, You should spend the money to have an IAQ professional in your area, a good one, evaluate your situation. Most of us on this list will tell you one or two things, this or that, but the reality is that very few of us (not me or Barb) are qualified to tell you things specific to your situation that you can depend on for your health. Each of us has been on our own journey and many of us (like me) are still very sick with our own issues and not qualified to say anything at all except as it has related to our own situations.. Honest people will qualify what they say with that.. Carl Grimes and Jeff May who both post here occasionally, ARE IAQ pros and both of them would be qualified to recommend someone good in your area who will do you well and not steal your money... Don't risk your health by messing around.. unless you are like many of us and simply don't have the money to do it. In that case, you need to think of your children (if you have them) first and move out and then deal with the consequences from a distance.. Guest guest
This http://www.hadd.com/ website has an amazing amount of information on the MAJOR problems buyers being driven out of renting into buying face in the current " caveat emptor " ( " buyer beware " ) atmosphere. One has to wonder, WHERE DO ALL THESE PEOPLE GO AFTER THEY ARE FORCLOSED UPON? They can't buy, they can't rent. Do they just drop off the map? I kow we see some of them here, traveling around without any place to stay. Are any of the Democratic (or Grand Old Party) candidates doing anything for uprooted people, or their issues? I guess its hard to register to vote if you are on the road. People should be able to keep their registration at their last known address until tey get a new, physical address. Guest guest
I think that in some situations, I might feel safer taking a QPCR sample (vacumn dust) and sending it in to a lab for analysis *myself*. (I had a mold inspector try to put me over a barrel once and it left a bad taste in my mouth.) Testing methods like that have the advantage of using the dust to get what in a sense is an average of the mold situation over time. Something like Aerotech's EMRI or the like.. QPCR.. Many of these so called 'mold inspectors' don't know any more about this than many of us do, in fact, in most places, there are no real laws that prevent anyone from calling themselves a 'mold inspector'. (OTOH, there are many good, professional people i the field, many of whom also don't have formal degrees.. - YOU HAVE TO FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF or get a good recommendation) There are accreditation organizations (like the IAQA which seems far better than most) but even those organizations have lots of inernal conflicts about policies of extreme importance to people like us. That makes this difficult. You know ALL of these mold inspectiion people do much of their work for the real estate industry and business owners... as well as, but not as much - for homeowners or renters, get the picture on that? Those are the repeat customers they may not want to anger, unless they are really moral people who look at this - and healthy homes and people - as a calling and not simply as a way of paying their bills.. (I do believe that they can go together - but I am sometimes a bit too trusting too) *sigh* On 7/16/07, barb1283 <barb1283@...> wrote: > > I've heard the exact opposite advice, to use an independent inspector > because inspectors that deal with real estate companies want to help > the realtor sell the house, which is conflict of interest.
