I need some advice badly! I have a 7 year old autistic son. He's in 1st grade

special education. The past 2 months have been stressful. He was almost

completely non verbal until 5. We have been going to speech since he was 3. He

now has a good vocabulary not completely fully functional for his age and not

completely clear of what he's saying but he can say alot more than before. I can

understand him and so can the people that work/or are around him. Okay here's

the problem, he has been acting up at school really bad. (Hitting the teacher,

kicking, screaming, pushing, pushing, head butting, etc.) anything he can do to

hurt the person that is not letting him do what he wants. Now before you answer

my questions here's the deal. He is completely smart and active in every aspect

except speech. He can count, add, he knows his colors, the whole alphabet, he

hums to complete songs all the time, does not like to sleep, he is not on any

medication nor do we have him on any other diet. He is my son first/ autistic is

second in my book. So whenever he punches, screams, kicks, bits, whatever to

anyone he gets punished ( time out, corner, spankings)just like any other child.

At school he acts out worse and I think it's because he knows that there is

nothing they can do about it. What I'm afraid of is that he is going to act out

on another student/ teacher and things are gonna get bad from there. He is so

smart he knows what no is, he knows whenever I count on my fingers that whenever

I get close to 5 he better stop or he faces time outs, he is constantly "

testing " whoever is around to see what he can get away with or how far he can

push them. I reall need some advice as to what works for y'all. Thanks, Linn
