Local and regional boards of education are urged to set up air quality committees to increase staff and student awareness of indoor environmental quality. These are some ways schools must monitor their indoor air quality and it's in large part because of Newtown educator len Lawson, who was honored with the National Healthy School Hero Award 2007 this week for her work. Lawson has suffered debilitating effects from mold in her school for nearly a decade and she's spend nearly that long working to clean up school buildings and eliminate environmental health hazards. She also led efforts to develop a state law that governs indoor school air quality. The 52-year-old disabled teacher and founder of the Connecticut Foundation for Environmentally Safe Schools, was too ill to travel to Washington, D.C., to receive the award so she was honored Monday in Hartford....... ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
