The Byers family house on Granger Avenue was plagued with mold, a faulty electric system, dry rot and an unstable foundation. But " Extreme Makeover " stepped in and helped out, by bringing down the house and now, by building a new one. The new house comes after 8-year-old Jenessa Byers fought off her cancer with treatment at Doernbecher Hospital in 2006. She's been strong in supporting other children with cancer, and outspoken in asking Senator Ron Wyden to support more research. Byers' cancer has since returned, but a knock on the door from a TV producer has been a true highlight for her. In a few days, her family will open the door to a new home. Members of Oregon State's college baseball championship team pitched in Monday to help the Corvallis family. " It's great for this family, " said Eddie Kunz, an Oregon State pitcher. " They go on vacation for a week. We help them tear down their house a little bit, and build them a new one. " The Byers family took a last look at their old home last weekend before traveling to South Carolina to await developments. " It's hard to describe, " said Rob Byers, Jenessa's father. " It's like dreamy. I haven't felt that way since the birth of my kids. " The family's supporters and the show's fans visited Corvallis to see part one of the five-day project unfold. The Byers family will turn the key to their new home Saturday.
