Guest guest
One fourth of july we were getting hammered with " when does the fireworks start " calls. on top of the 130 calls for police service from 2pm to 10pm we took, my partner and I made up a game. We had to think of a new phrase for every caller to explain that the fireworks started at dusk. We could not use the same phrase twice. Well let me tell you that got alot of tension off our shoulders, and was kinda funny to, some of the stuff we were telling the public. Made the nite go by FAST.. Guest guest
What about the other ones....Is there a parade, when does the parade start, where does the parade go, is there any festivities at the fairgrounds, when do they start, what are they.....those usually come right after the fireworks question. When are the fireworks? Ever feel like saying Noon on Tuesday......... Sara Winfield Who is glad she no longer works at a county PSAP on the 4th of July...not a single fireworks call today at the post.
Guest guest
Last year, it was a rainy July 4th. The " firework people " had to delay the display until the rain stopped enough for them to put on the show. Of course, this meant that the fireworks didn't start until about 10:20pm. Meanwhile, everyone kept calling our department (since the display was actually on campus) to find out what time it would start or how much longer and " didn't we know that they had kids that were getting tired of waiting " ????? Well, ma'am, I'm sorry but the police department doesn't put on the display, we are patroling the campus. They will start the display when or if it stops raining enough for it to be safe. " Well, can't you send an officer over to where the fireworks are and ask them how much longer??? " ARG! Sarge, get your butt in here! This year, I'm off. So is . We are taking our daughter to the festivities and will be watching the fireworks from our PD parking lot. I'll have a radio with me in case the dispatcher needs any help. Not having alcohol as a major part of the festivities is a great idea. Since it's on campus, no alcohol can be sold! annette hallmark ahallmark@... Our fireworks are held at a county park, sponsored and run by the county. The county, however, is smart enough to close their offices today so we field all the calls. Since we are never given a time for the start of fireworks we always tell people they will start shortly after dark. Anyone care to hazzard a guess as to how many brainiacs asked " What time is dark " ??? Gotta love stupid people!!!!!!! JOB SECURITY! Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th. patty BTPD NJ

Guest guest
Last year, I worked 4 hrs OT on evening shift, and I swore " NEVERMORE " !!!!!!!!!!! OMG, 4,000 an hour sounds about right. I refused to pander, I told them " I don't know, check the newspaper. " I refused to tell ANYONE when or where the fireworks were. What got me was the alternate call, " Someone is shooting off fireworks, and I/my baby/my dog is trying to sleep. " IT'S THE 4TH OF JULY. It will only last an hour at most. Yes, they are illegal in the city. No, we probably won't do anything about it, there are too many of them and not enough of us and to be perfectly honest, WE DON'T CARE! We actually only arrest REAL criminals. And if you don't want to speak to the officer, we probably won't even go. Guest guest
In our town the fireworks start at the city stadium when the baseball game is over. I imagine they get a lot of calls wondering when the game will end. Usually after the 7th inning I would think. Tammy

We are required to kiss butt, roll out the red carpet and " serve " any and everyone that crawls in, calls, emails, smoke signals, etc. In fact the bigger the ass% & %^ the better the treatment they get!! I can promise that if we had dared to tell anyone that called to check their local newspaper (which I believe is the RIGHT response) we would have had calls from our mayor's office today and we'd be answering for why we treated the tax paying public in such an awful way. patty BTPD NJ

The first was at the country club, the last was the county sponsored and the one in between was at our local minor league ballpark. Like yours, they were AFTER the game. Unfortunately our game that night was rain delayed.......fireworks started at about 2230ish. I can't even count the number of calls we got complaining about how late the fireworks were. I guess we're not in charge of rain too. patty BT PD NJ
