I first thought it was cause I was the Yank in the South and my very tone of voice was different. Then I had a trainee tell me I was intimidating because of how much I knew, but that certainly is something I cant help. That trainee said when she complained to her mother about it, mom said instead of being intimidated by my knowledge, learn from it. I have tried to intentionally lighten up my tone, and I just hope its working. My advise for Jeanette is that if you feel comfortable, talk to your previous trainer. Not everyone can please everyone and some people will just not get along with others. Don't keep your feelings to yourself, though because it will come between you and your training. If it is that bad, you should speak to your supervisor or your director of training, which ever is your chain of command.. Make sure you follow the correct chain.. People tend to get really defensive when you don't. But also, don't let someone be condescending to you especially on the floor. That is not acceptable. Criticism is for private, not public display. Also, write down situations that you have a problem with so that you can refer to your notes. I have had to do this with a CO I am having difficulty with and when I approach the situation, I will know exactly what transpired. We got the royal cold shoulder from them the rest of the day. >> When we have a major incident in a city pd jurisdiction we always of course tell them. When we have a serious med call and have units responding to a city, we usually try and tell them also. In one city, they have our MDT system, so they will usually type someone in the room and ask them. I have never (now this is only me) heard of having a 'cold shoulder' attitude with another jurisdiction. Seems to be just a little immature on their part. Would be interesting to know what anyone might have found out about it from their end, if there was anything more to it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- In a message dated 7/4/2000 12:40:24 AM Eastern Daylight Time, LifeCare449@... writes: << AN MCI IS A MASS CASULTY INCIDENT >> Got it Miss Kathy Colorado actually tried to convince me that it was the phone company.. People hate it cause I dont really complain alot about work (now people on the other hand I have a problem with . I came to Ga/dispatching from a profession that I was truly miserable in. I knew what it was like every day to dread coming into work and cried sometimes cause I was soo unhappy. Now that I am doing something that I absolutely LOVE to do, I personally find the little things more bearable. I just figure that there are more important things to get upset about. As far as work environment; I say it again. You cant please everyone. Everyone is going to be unhappy about something. I tune out the stuff that just doesnt matter to me in the performance of my job. It works for me. We are a larger agency, and so there are more people in the room and its easier to tune out one. Hope you figure something out. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Toni Wyman, (CTO)...Gwinnett County Police, GA (just N of HotLanta) 770 Hi Hope Rd, Lawrenceville, GA 30046 (These are only my opinions, not my agency's, after all they are the government and they have opinions of their own) For liability reasons my posts and opinions are to be reprinted with my permission only.
