(Aired 7-26-07) The City Code Enforcement Agency completed their inspection of the Pinnacle Apartment Complex Thursday afternoon regarding complaints of a dangerous mold. The inspection did find mold growing, but the Code Enforcement Agency said since they are not specifically trained or equipped to deal with mold their concern lies rather in finding the source of the problem, which is where the moisture is coming from. It is a problem they see as manageable and one the property's owner Todd Ragan said has already been fixed, but is it that simple? Ken , Code Enforcement Administrator said, " We inspected six storage units today(Thursday). We found mold in one of the units that had a six by eight sheet of dry wall that had mold growing on it. " Mold that and others residents said they complained to the apartment complex about. Todd Ragan, the complex's owner said he was not made aware of any problems until Code Enforcement notified him on Tuesday. Ragan said, " I pulled up a work order history that I'm able to do on my computer and nothing was put in by them(residents) concerning mold what so ever. " But now there is a order from the City Code Enforcement agency telling Ragan to get rid of the mold and fix the problem. Ragan said " We already fixed it. We found it and solved the problem. " But said " It's not completely fixed at this time. They still need to rip down that dry wall and assure us they've fixed the leak or whatever caused that mold in the first place. " A process Ragan has until next week to complete. If it is not complete the building could then be condemned. Although said, relatively speaking, this is one of the more minor cases of mold he's seen Code Enforcement does not measure the health risks associated with mold. What exact health risk the mold posses to residents living above or around the area said would need to be determined by an industrial hygienist. also said a hygienist would be able to conduct more in-depth tests inside the actual apartments of residents to see if they contain mold.
