Guest guest
I have a slightly different story on suicide calls. It happened before I ever imagined being in this business. I had recently broken up with a girl-friend of more than two years and started seeing someone different. The ex-girlfriend called me at work from her house which was more than an hour away in a different state. She told me: " I hope you are happy. I just took a bottle of pills and am going to off myself. " Needless to say this rattled me. I asked her to hold so that I could change phones. While she was on hold, I called the Police Department in her home town. I went back talking to her, after a few minutes she said that there was somedody knocking on her door but she was not going to answer it. I told her that she better because I had called the police. Of course she did and they took her to the hospital. I left work and got there while she was still in the ER. I beat her family there. When they got there they were not nice to her, or me, but I deserved it - she did not. When she was moved to the ICU for observation I went with her. At some point, I cannot remember when, they determined that she was pregnant! We never reconciled our relationship, but we are cordial enough for the benefit of our son. He is wonderful and appears to have suffered no effects from her attempted overdose. She is a wonderful Mommy and student. I try to help as much as she will allow because I know that it is not easy to be single mother and go to school. Sorry to be so far off post. I will never forget that call.
