Guest guest
Carl, This is entirely possible but the whole matter keeps coming back to the fact that our lives and livelihoods are exceedingly fragile and that toxic mold repeatedly has been shown to disrupt them, often permanently, again and again. What is needed is a focus on the effect and eliminating the cause, which has also been shown to be these terrible conditions in buildings. I would think that an understanding of the pleas and cries of all of us, and the increasing science, and the combined wisdom of literally thousands of years of oral and written traditions to this effect (i.e. the Bible, etc.) would hold enough weight to make the logic undeniable.. over the money (bribes) of a few hundred well placed lobbyists for the building, insurance and real estate inductries. But it doesn't. At least here in the US, it doesnt. What the hell is wrong here?
Guest guest
What is wrong is the position by society, industry and the courts that everything is assumed safe until PROVEN unsafe. Then that " proof " must be accepted by industry. And of course we know it is highly unlikely their response will be anything but defensive and denial. What is needed is a process of decisions that includes all concerned parties rather than just the proponents. This is called the Precautionary Principle. A popular myth (which industry likes to promulgate) is the Precautionary Principle requires that something be proven safe before it can be used, therefore bringing progress to an abrupt halt. Rather, it says: " When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically. " In this context the proponent of an activity, rather than the public, should bear the burden of proof. For more, a good place to start is: http://www.precaution.org/lib/pp_def.htm Also check out how Europe is ahead of us on implementing it.
