Guest guest
Thanks KC and everyone for your kind words. I have personally been waging this battle since 2000 and I truly believe that those who came before me, like Melinda Ballard and Katrine s, and a whole host of others and all who came after me, collectively, have REALLY made a difference in moving this along. I shutter to think how far behind we would be on this if we didn't have computers! It really has made a dramatic difference. A good representation of other people spoke at the hearing, including representatives from the Mass Teachers Association, MassCOSH (Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health), Joe O'Sullivan, past president of the Brockton Teachers Union who actually has a science background and really made a difference in raising awareness of mold illnesses in his schools. Parents and teachers spoke, as well as other stakeholders. Another item on the docket before the Joint Committee on Public Health was Safer Cleaning/Green cleaning materials. I was really not surprised, but was surprised at the same time when the Massachusetts Hospital Association and a major lobbying group for large commercial property owners spoke against making cleaning chemicals safer for the janitorial staff. You should have seen the eyes roll in the hearing room when they spoke. It certainly is totally outrageous that HOSPITALS wouldn't want to do everything in their power to make the job safe for their employees. What has happened to us? How can they expose people to dangerous chemicals without flinching? How can they look at us with a straight face and say mold exposure doesn't harm our health? In a conversation with the Legislative Director for a Congressman today, I mentioned the fact that there REALLY has to be laws, both criminal and civil, to make it more difficult for medical and scientific organizations to lay these lies on us about mold illnesses. They are like children: they will try and get away with anything until they are stopped.
