Guest guest
Why are they STILL using these 'portable classrooms'? There have been so VERY many news stories about people getting sick, really sick, in them.. You know what I mean?
Guest guest
I am sitting here reading the posts on SB BECAUSE I also became sick from working in a trailer. In the same county as Ms Washington! Kudos to her for bringing her case as far as a jury. I was in one of two trailers that had been placed over a mold pit. The door opened directly into the elements - no cover to walk into the school for lunch or activities. Chalk dust covered everything. I got my first ever (at the age of 48) sinus infection. The pain in my head was so severe that all I could do for a week was to sit at home and hold my head in my hands. I have had continual sinus infections since. After the other teacher and I complained (no help from parents since this was in a poor neighborhood) an inspector was sent in and found that the heating/air handling system had been put in backwards - no air exchange, mold being blown in, and very dry atmosphere. After months of this we were finally moved into the building. I ended up in an all-purpose room with a 50 year old heating system and the only ventilation was a door that opened into the area where buses and trucks parked, leaving their motors running. Then I got CO poisoning, documented by weekly trips to the hospital for testing. The whole school was affected by some type of poisoning. At recess kids often ran into walls, teachers complained of feeling ill. One went home and vomited every night. Of course, inspection showed nothing. Most did not complain and didn't want to rock any boats. I became increasingly sicker, severe diarrhea, constant fevers, severe MCS. One other teacher and I tried to address the issue with the school system. We were drawn, quartered and hung up as troublemakers!! Like we really wanted to be sick!!! She eventually quit and I managed to leave on disability. Still sick, some 17 years later - loss of a career, salary and a life!! The purpose of an institution is to perpetuate that institution. And the school system does this very well. They will accept no proof that doesn't support their case - no matter how well documented. I even went through Worker's Compensation and was turned down with no reason given. They have money, powerful attorneys and fortitude. I hope a judge upholds Ms Washington's jury verdict. But, I also worry about those also exposed and not being treated as humans. And what about those of us who have the " mold gene " ? Sorry this is so long (and I left out a lot!) --- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@...> wrote: > > Why are they STILL using these 'portable classrooms'? > > There have been so VERY many news stories about people getting sick, really > sick, in them.. > > You know what I mean? > > >

The school were I got sick along with others is still operating with rooms FULL of teachers and kids!!!! They just tell the parents that everything is fine and mold has been removed!! I believe our children are in great danger!!! ARE THESE KIDS AND TEACHERS STILL IN THIS SITUATION? Has anything there been changed?
