Oh well, I guess when I finish all of my antibiotics ol' doc will lower it again. >> First, sincere congrats on nailing that 6.7 hbA1c. I too was housebound for months from two cardiac events in 1998, and it's certainly tougher to keep the numbers in check and lose weight with so little activity. But what's a person to do when you get winded just walking down the hall? I'm not so sure about your doctor though. He placed a patient with six cardiac arrests and congestive heart failure on Glipizide, which is one of those darn sulfonylureas we keep talking about. Within six years, 60% of sulf users no longer have pancreas function, meaning they are essentially " induced type 1's. " When you have no pancreas function, control is trickier, because you don't have your pancreas to fall back on when you mismatch insulin to carbs. Also, if you will go to http://www.rxlist.com and do a search for glipizide, I don't think you'll be happy about what you see. There is a big bold box warning saying that at least one sulfonylurea causes increased deaths from heart trouble - so much so that the test which revealed this was cancelled early because of the risk imposed on the test subjects. Sulfonylureas are also notorious for causing weight gain and for inducing sometimes severe hypos. Susie
