Guest guest
July 30, 2007 Real danger is greed, not mold Re: Cary Savitch’s July 29 Pulse piece, “Legalitis infects St. ’s Medical Center”: http://blogs.venturacountystar.com/vcs/letters/archives/2007/07/real_danger_is.h\ tmlMy sincere thanks to Dr. Savitch for his rational, articulate plea for sanity in the St. 's Medical Center mold hysteria. I welcome his commentary for its scientific information — so far completely absent from the public discussion — and his appeal to logic over litigator scaremongering. The cost of this fantasy threat so far has been huge to Ventura's economy. Unethical lawyers have siphoned millions of dollars into their pockets through trumped-up damage claims, and dozens of innocent vendors have been pummeled by shotgun litigation that cares not who it destroys. These same lawyers have burned more millions in taxpayer dollars through the courts and agencies involved. Additional millions will be squandered if St. 's goes ahead with its ill-conceived evacuation and patient relocation program. All these millions will not demonstrably improve public safety. I urge everyone to read Dr. Savitch's article. His facts are accurate and easily checked, in contrast to the fear, uncertainty and doubt sown by St. 's and its legal team. I also urge St. 's to stand down from its mold remediation plans and avoid flinging further resources into the abyss. Toxicologist Harry Skalsky is accurate in identifying a toxic agent at work at St. 's. He was just wrong about what that agent is. It's not mold, it's greed. — Mel Beckman, Oxnard --------------------------------- Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell.
