Guest guest
Selenium should be taken with the thyroid med, a standard dose in the beginning being 200 mcgs, but some are warning not to continue taking HIGH doses of selenium, after the initial replenishment of this supplement. I took 200 mcgs for the first few weeks, but then I cut it back to half that dose. Some people take even smaller amts than that. I think they said that the best way to take it is WITH the thyroid med, but I can't take it before I sleep, or I'll never sleep. I guess different people are different. It stinks and tastes nasty, but I consider it worth the little problem. Selenium I purchased some selenium to go along with my otc thyroid, now I forgot, when do I take it, and any other alerts? Hugs, and again Happy B-day Thyrogeek! Guest guest
> > I have REALLY REALLY REALLY bad reactions whenever i try taking > selenium supplements or eat food high in selenium, nuts, camomile tea, > yeast, etc... Basically I go very bonkers - There, there, Robin. You're in good company. I've been detoxing from mercury for 4+ years, and I came up with my own name for this reaction: Sudden Onset Intolerable Mood, or SOIM. Mine weren't from selenium, but I came up with a list of my triggers: Betaine Hydrochloride DMSA All the enzyme formulas I tried (except American Biologics Inf-zyme) Zymex (kills candida) Nystatin (kills candida) Alpha Lipoic Acid It could possibly be a Herxheimer reaction. (Google this if you don't know what it is.) But since selenium is known to bind mercury (like DMSA and ALA), you may be having mercury redistribution. Whatever it is, something toxic is going to your brain. The Herx reaction and mercury redistribution have one thing in common: your body is not able to excrete the toxins fast enough and they are poisoning you. I found out that it is very dangerous to do detox when hypometabolic. You MUST get your adrenals and thyroid working optimally before doing mercury detox. And if anything else triggers your SOIM, keep a list, and avoid them all like the plague! No matter what your doc says. Hang in there, you're not crazy! --
