Guest guest
ARE THESE KIDS AND TEACHERS STILL IN THIS SITUATION? Has anything there been changed? Guest guest
My experience was back in the 1980's and '90's. The school I was in was torn down and a new one built. But, not because of the mold and other toxins. It was old and scheduled for replacement. However, this county has had many complaints of toxic environment in the schools. They are still using trailers and, to my knowledge have done nothing to remedy any issue. It is hard to prove anything to the satisfaction of the system - no matter what tests or doctors statements you have. Ms. Washington's case is recent - so, we know the problem still exists. Hers is unusual in that it is the first case I know of to have come to court. Most people have transferred, retired, quit or given up under the stress of being very sick and trying to fight the system. They are still using toxic cleaners, have rugs in most rooms (which can never be cleaned adequately) and use inspectors whose equipment is not sensitive enough to pick up what is in the air. This is a rich county - educating many children from the D.C. elite. > > > > > > I am sitting here reading the posts on SB BECAUSE I also became > > sick from working in a trailer. Guest guest
I just can't believe this happens over and over again and nothing changes. > > > > Why are they STILL using these 'portable classrooms'? > > > > There have been so VERY many news stories about people getting > sick, really > > sick, in them.. > > > > You know what I mean? > > > > > >
Guest guest
> > Has anything there been changed? In my sick school I called risk management and told him about the children's reactions and my reactions. He told me that it was up to the principal to close the classroom.I called the EPA in SF and they said my district had been thoroughly trained in IAQ issues and was shocked that the risk management director would pass the buck. The children and teachers are still in the building minus one teacher who has recently died. Where is the accountability?!!! I'm in year three worker's comp. Not one dime paid out. They are spending more money on lawyers to deny me than to compensate my injury.
Guest guest
They probably don't want to establish a precendent.. God forbid that they would.. Clearly they are under some kind of orders from above to play hardball with people like us. Guest guest
Standards for remediation? I kept hearing that there were no standards for remediation in the US, and people kept sending me the standards that exist in other countries, saying that they should be applied here too. But as far I have heard, there ARE NO STANDARDS FOR REMEDIATION HERE... Are there any formal standsrds for schools? I would expect the situation for schools to be stronger, but it doesn;t take much to be stronger than *nothing* ! On 7/23/07, ginloi <ginloi@...> wrote: > > > But, they really did listen.
