Guest guest
That is similar to my story...poor children. poor parents, who can manipulated into thinking that the teacher is a troublemaker. I am - for the right reason. Political activism is the only way. ADA was not much help because accommodations are on the lowest rung of review. I put in for those early on. EEOC was really a joke. I sent all my stuff on to Washington to my congressman on whose home, a block the school was located and who was a friend of Cong. Conyers, Jr. and went to Detroit to the first hearing in 2002, and was the first teacher to testify nationally. The emphasis then was on insurance companies failing to repair water damaged buildings and Melinda Ballard did a great job with her case and starting POA. Those people really listened when I told what happened in schools, because it did not occur that the home mold nightmare could happen in a school, which is supposed to be a safe haven for kids. So, in theory, a kid could be in a moldy house, and then go to a moldy school! No one wanted to even think about that scenario. But, they really did listen. The EPA was called by Cong. Conyers and did not show up. They must have had moles in the hearing room, because the day after the hearing the standards for remediation were 'revised' - imagine my surprise! The Tools for Schools was out but was a toothless tiger. The publicity is working. There is now on the market sheetrock that has no paper on either side. The paper feeds and nourishes the mold when it gets wet. Industry is listening and responding. The govt. will be dragged kicking and screaming to their day of reckoning. It took 20 years at least for the Vietnam Vets to get protection and recogntion for exposure to Agent Orange. We have the internet. I hope it does not take that long. I would only suggest to someone who was smart enough to get a teaching degree, to look into online courses, etc. to keep your mind [brain-fogged as it might be] moving and regroup yourself with more education. It kept me going forward in this disaster. You can either read beach books or course books... You have many transferrable skills as teachers. If you can manage a classroom, you can rule the world! And you have courage that may not be acknowledged, but you are a giant among the spineless. who <jeaninem660@...> a écrit : I just can't believe this happens over and over again and nothing changes. > > > > Why are they STILL using these 'portable classrooms'? > > > > There have been so VERY many news stories about people getting > sick, really > > sick, in them.. > > > > You know what I mean? > > > > > >
