Wet mattresses have been thrown outside. Mops and buckets can be seen next to doors.
One woman slipped on green and yellow mold dripping from ceiling tile.
" I fell down there once and I'm afraid to fall again. When I answer the door, I go slowly, " says Marisol Pena.
She says she'd live somewhere else if she could afford it.
The electrical wiring in ez's apartment can be plainly seen. He says, " We're scared because all that electricity might come down on us. "
Tenants have been trying to get help from the building manager and the city. But they hadn't gotten a response.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 called the building manager. We left a message on his voicemail. We haven't gotten a return call yet.
ez says he's called countless times. Now he's refusing to pay the rent, until his home is livable.
" I said, 'No, I'm not going to pay you. Not until you come and fix all this.' Look at this. This is trash, " he says.
We alerted the city to the problem. They say a code enforcement officer and a health inspector will be at the apartments first thing tomorrow morning.
