Guest guest
Mold Found In Two D-49 Schools July 19, 2007 KKTV 11 News - Colorado Springs,CO* Reporter: McKenzie Email Address: mmartin@kktv11news http://www.kktv.com/news/headlines/8611307.html Mold has been found in two District 49 schools and now school officials won't release the name of one of those schools. Mold was discovered at Woodmen Hills Elementary earlier this week when custodians were doing routine maintenance on the building. The school was immediately vacated and shut-down and now all D-49 schools have been closed. Director of Planning and Construction for D-49, Henry Reitweisner says they are now testing all their schools. " We are taking this situation extremely seriously, we have water that entered the building somehow and is trapped behind the vinyl wall covering, " said Reitweisner. And it's happened at two schools so far. " We discovered that there was mold growing behind the vinyl wall covering and we called in experts and had them take a look at it, " Reitweisner said. He says they are in the process of testing the mold to find out exactly what kind it is, either way, it's a discovery concerning to some parents. " Mold causes coughs and allergies and asthma, " said one parent. The District says they're looking into how the water damage occurred. There is a chance the start of the new school year here at Woodmen Hills and the other school will be delayed. District officials hope to know more by Monday. Registration for the upcoming school year will resume on Monday as well at all school locations.
