How large are the nodules? Small nodules <5 mm possibly up to 9 mm have a 50% chance of shrinking on a suppressive dose of thyroid hormone.

If the nodules are causing pain, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, then a thyroidectomy is probably needed even when there is no cancer present. I would suggest the thyroidectomy sooner rather than later. The nodules will only grow making the surgery more risky and difficult.

I would add that an fna cannot rule out cancer. The samples are very small. They can easily miss cancerous cells.

What are her thyroid levels? TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. Is she on any thyroid medication?

Get copies of all lab reports, imaging reports and pathology reports.

Launius in ville is in primary care, not an endo, but is one of our better thyroid docs. He can manage her care and give you referrals for endocrine surgeons in your area. He does not take any insurance, but has reasonable rates.

We did ultrasound and fine needle aspiration and they showed it was benign; but the endocrinilogist said it was a cold nodule, and that medicines would not really help shrink the nodules. When we went to visit our folks in India, we consulted an endocrinoloigist there who said the same thing and suggested surgery within 1-2 years. We're not sure if that is really warranted, and wanted yet another opinion. I was looking for recommendation on a good endocrinologist / thyroid specialist in the Dallas area (we live in Carrollton) and experiences from anyone who has had a similar diagnonsis.> > Thanks in advance,> Jay>

I was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter with nodules on both sides. The largest nodule on the left was bleeding and it was recommended that I have a partial thyroidectomy. The fine needle biopsy was negative and I was assured there was no cancer. Long story short there was cancer on both sides. 2 surgeries later I am waiting to have RAI next week. I would consider TT. Hi,

I joined this group yesterday. My wife has thyroid nodules (two on the right and one small on the left). I was looking for recommendation on a good endocrinologist / thyroid specialist in the Dallas area (we live in Carrollton) and experiences from anyone who has had a similar diagnonsis.

Thanks in advance,

Jay
