Guest guest
Are you on adrenal support? Your symptom's sort of sound adrenal to me and it is needed to have that RIGHT for the thyroid to work properly. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/
Guest guest
Jenifer...... ok, so if it takes a month to get back I think I can make it! Reading your post made me feel so much better. My story is similar to you. Off all armour as I cleared rt3. Went fairly high on t3 and then backed down as I felt hyper. Unfortunately I allowed my own thyroid back on board to stand in as armour as I reduced t3. MISTAKE! Had no idea my t4 was converting to rt3 and making me feel hyper. so I reduced t3 even more. Oh the joy. What hell i have entered. It has taken me a month to figure it out, plus see some labs to get the deal. Major depression? The worst i think i have known. Absolutely a nightmare of hopelessness. Talk about losing yourself in the dark lickety split.... don't think I have ever experienced such a rapid deterioration on all levels as this.Hair loss!? Oh man. Buckets of hair. And scalp pain. It's so weird. I mod a female hair loss group. Hear it all. Think i see it all. Only when i went hypo with lowering t3 did I get oily scalp, scalp pain, huge shedding and feel that aga (androgenic alopecia) was afoot. Um, aga is an androgen hair loss. I had the burning scalp in the front and back where male pattern balding happens, as well as shedding all over. The worst loss was in the painful, burning areas. But how could AGA just come on when thyroid hormone is the only thing that changed with me?Ahh, very hard to find this out. Finally after a weekend of nonstop study and digging, I find a reference in Shoman's book that in some hypothyroid people there is an increased activation of the 5 alpha reductase enzyme. What this means is a greater conversion of T to DHT. Who knew? And it makes sense why the body would increase DHT with low thyroid levels. DHT, being more powerful, it's able to rev the body and it's metabolism. When it comes to survival and the body is in a hypo slump, it would take a strong rise out of a powerful hormone like DHT to get a body going. Hmm. I always wondered why some hypo people have such prominent AGA type loss. Now I finally know. The other thing I discovered is this, T3 (the active thyroid hormone) raises SHBG. SHBG bind T. If you lower SHBG you end up with more T. And this makes for more androgens. And according to this info I uncovered it makes for more DHT for those with an active 5AR enzyme. With hypo hair loss it can be both low metabolism and aga- imho.Glad you are coming around!-AGBegin forwarded message:1 month later, feeling better...Posted by: "jenifer_galgano" jenifer_galgano@... jenifer_galganoMon May 5, 2008 8:43 pm (PDT)Hey Val,Happy to report that I am feeling better now that I am back on T3 only. We discovered in March that 3 months back on Armour was the wrong way to go after 6 mths on Cytomel that were successful. (It only took 2 mths to go completely Hypo again, and 1 mth for me to figure the whole thing out!) I am currently taking a total of 50 mcg/daily split in 4 doses sublingually. My doc won't allow me to increase because she is worried about my high pulse (108). I was thinking about a phone consult with Dr. Lowe as I don't think this is enough. I still have some anxiety, and can't lose weight to save my life. (I put some on in the past few months of this roller coaster.) I am still suffering from headaches, and lack of energy, but the hair loss and major depression stopped and those were the worst symptoms for me. I have also suffered from daily hives for 3 yrs and still get them. (So I feel 50% better on this dose of Cytomel.)Also, is there a specific diet for us that works?thanks! Guest guest
Hey val, I sure am. 25 of HC daily split up. Last year I noticed some weight gain with HC (5lbs) and now another 5lbs with this last bout of going Hypo again. I have begun watching my calories this week and walking on the treadmil for about 20 minutes. I am finding that i feel good doing this and eating every 3-4 hours (which I think is good for the adreanals). I noticed that under the list of symptoms of Hypo, anxiety and other simular symptoms of Adrenal are listed, like being bothered by bright lights, and startled by loud noises. I don't want to increase the HC..so should I add some licorace or other herbal? thanks! > Are you on adrenal support? Guest guest
Hi Atlanta Girl, Great to hear you are doing well. I would say the hair loss and depression was the worst. I definately took about a month with me switching out Armour to 12.5 cytomel weekely. Thank God for sleep and family/friends. (Sorry for the delay, but I'm back at work) I do not think I am 100%, but believe that I am on my help thanks to this forum and STTM. Since you are experiencing hair loss and researched the heack out of it, I think you might benefit from this vitamin I am taking (www.fithair.com). I used it years ago, prior to being Hypo, and had the best hair so I have gone back. The owner answers the phone when you call and is awesome. She states on her website all the things you have listed below. The testimonials are great as well. Are you checking iron and adrenals( sure you are), but iron also helped my depression, so I take it daily now. I think I was born with this as there have been times in my life that I suffered from thinner hair (as a teenager), IBS, and cradle cap at 8 yrs old. The depression will lift. Are you going for vita b shots or taking it? I have started weekly Meyer's cocktails (an IV of major vita b's, magnisum, etc) and by the second shot I think I had muscle cramps from smiling so much. These things have really helped me in the meantime. Jen > > Jenifer...... ok, so if it takes a month to get back I think I can > make it! Reading your post made me feel so much better. Guest guest
Ashwaganda and Rhodiola would be better than licorice. Licorice it would be too easy to get fluid retention and too much glucocorticoid effects from. What oyu could do is incr4ease unrefined sea salt. The light sensitivity is usually low Aldosterone and can soe6times be covered just with sea salt. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/
