Guest guest
YES. Re: Industrial Hygienist. I thought Industrial Hygienist were primarily trained in 'clean up', not investigations. I called someone who advertised he as a 'forensic architect', an background in architecture who said he investigated building problems. He was going to be out of town a couple of weeks, recommended someone he works with alot who was Industrial Hygienist. I thought I'd wait for the forensic guy to get back but after he was back, message on his answering service said he was not taking any more business at the time, so I called the IH he had recommended. He came out and basically looked at area I was concerned about which is around where chimney goes through second floor where there had been a very long term leak, which I had repaired and checked often and found no evidence of water leaking anymore. He basically strolled around the room and other areas pointing his IR camera here and there and moisture meter and said " it's dry, so there isn't a problem any more " . I said 'why does it smell bad in this room only?'. I keep it closed to keep the odor out of rest of house. He said it probably smells because I keep it closed. I said if I leave it open it smells, that is why I close it. He said it's probably an old bed or old carpet causing the smell. I said the carpet is same age as everywhere and the bed is not smelly...put your nose up to it, which I DID and it didn't smell. He said " it's an old house. You are bound to have odors " . REALLY...too smelly to sleep in room? I gave him a check for charge we had agreed to ahead of time feeling he didn't earn it but I had not done my homework and asked enough questions so I came through with what the agreed cost was. After he left I realized I had not receipt of any kind, so I had nothing for my home maintenance files or to show that I had area inspected. I called him and left message to call me twice about and he didn't call me back. Message was left with his wife, as he works out of his home. So I typed up a letter asking him for a receipt for visit and payment for my files. He didn't answer letter. I'm so FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that it's causes me intense pain when I think of it. It cost me 350.00 for him to stroll around house pointing his IR camera here and there and his moisture meter, which probably COST 350.00 to buy or less, up to wall. He did not do any tests. Had no answer as to why it would only smell in summertime. THEN of all things, I went into room to make sure all windows were tightly close a couple months later since we were having a VERY bad storm and area was LEAKING again!!!!!!!!!!!! So DON'T CALL ONE!!! --- In , " gsgrl2000 " <gsgrl2000@...> wrote: > > So I called the Environmental Health Services Department and asked > what they would or could do when a landlord/owner of a building > only except lab results from an industrial hygienist (but they no > nothing about building structures or how to find the source of the > mold problem). Guest guest
Sorry to here your nightmare.... and the city want's me to call one probably because they know the IH will come back and say that there is nothing wrong; then the city can say that I'm just overeacting and my illness must be " all in my head " or caused by something other then mold. > > > > So I called the Environmental Health Services Department and asked > > what they would or could do when a landlord/owner of a building > > > only except lab results from an industrial hygienist (but they no > > nothing about building structures or how to find the source of the > > mold problem).
