Guest guest
Dear : I know how you feel. I am overweight (weighed more than you and probably shorter!), I smoked, I did not eat the right things. Exercise? that was 2 4 letter words! There is so much heart disease in my family (on both sides). I " knew " that I was at risk for a heart attack. But did that stop me? NO! Well - guess what - I had that heart attack! The problem was I am only 42 years old! Now knowing that I was at prime risk - why didn't I change my lifestyle BEFORE the heart attack? I don't know, but what I do know is this - Change does not happen overnight. NOW I've changed my lifestyle (and I am very thankful that I got another chance). I've lost 18 lbs so far and I'm bringing my bg's under control. It can be done. Even by someone who continually sabotaged herself for years! (me) You will not lose the weight overnight (you didn't gain it overnight!) Take 1 step at a time. Don't try to change everything at one time. But try to keep making progress. If you fall down - that's ok - everyone does. But get back up! Don't let a slip stop you for good! And for goodness sakes - don't beat yourself up about it either! Remember - progress - not perfection! I receive motivational messages and Saturday's seems very appropriate for you (and could be for a lot of us) so I am including it in my e-mail. All the best, Marie -------------------------- Saturday, January 29, 2000 Refuse To Be Discouraged There is a route to success that is available to just about everyone. It is persistence. No matter what your level of skill or experience, no matter how knowledgeable you are or aren't, when you continue making the effort for as long as it takes, you'll get where you're determined to go. Persistence does not require any special talent. There's really nothing to stop you from persisting with one possible exception -- discouragement. But what is discouragement? Does it really need to have any power over your actions. Should you allow it to dictate your future? Does it make any sense for your discouragement about the past to prevent you from going forward toward the goals you desire? Discouragement has exactly the amount of power you give it. And guess what? You don't need it. It won't being you anything positive. So go beyond it. Persist in your efforts. Forget about the disappointments. Look resolutely at what's ahead, at all the great things that are possible. Keep going, today, tomorrow and for as long as it takes. ~ Ralph Marston
