Guest guest
Watch for mould that could impact health: lung association St. 's Telegram - St. 's,Newfoundland,Canada* http://www.thetelegram.com/index.cfm?sid=52481 & sc=79 Residents affected by last week's drenching from tropical storm Chantal should be worrying about more than just flood damage, said the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association. The association is reminding residents to look for mould growth that often follows flood damage. Summer temperatures, moist air and wet materials will increase chances of mould in homes, the association warns. " Mould has been shown to cause a variety of allergic reactions and respiratory problems, including an increased risk of asthma and other breathing difficulties, " said Thomey, executive director of the association. " It is important that both residential home owners and business owners affected by the flooding last week keep respiratory health impacts in mind as they work through the painstaking cleanup effort that is now underway. " While using a humidifier will reduce moisture in the air, residents need to dry and clean all furniture, walls and other places that may become a target of mould. If anyone finds a change in breathing or asthma symptoms, they should see a physician as soon as possible, the association says.
