Guest guest
The point on comparing salaries was good--the cost of living is widely different in many parts of the country, and even among smaller areas. In the San Francisco Bay area, the cost of living varies quite a bit between the San area and points just 40 miles north near SF, Oakland, etc. Housing is particularly high in the south bay area. The salary.com Web site has a great Salary Wizard that helps you locate pay rates from anywhere in the country. From the home page, type in a ZIP code or region, then select " government " as a job type. Then select " emergency dispatcher " as the job position. After a (sometimes) lengthy process, the Wizard will display the median, top and bottom income for dispatchers in the area you selected, along with a chance to compare that salary to other areas of the country, adjusted for the cost of living. If you're thinking of relocating from one area of the country to another, you <must> check this site to see how your current pay will translate, due to the cost of living.
