Guest guest
Dear Sally, From what I've been hearing argued about Aspartame, it doesn't seem like such a good thing to be ingesting into our bodies. Some on the list have discussed Stevia, but it is difficult to obtain as a sweetener. -moderator
Guest guest
Does anyone know of any studies on the sweetners added in Diet Drinks etc. I have never had much losing weighing until this past week. I have cut out all diet drinks etc---- I used to drink a two-liter a day. This week I have lost 10 pounds. Also I had to go back to my Onologist Friday and he told me that there have been somes studies done which showed sweetners increased weight, triggered growth in cancer tumors. Guest guest
Thanks for the info, but after the discussions I had with my Doctors Friday and the fact that I seem to be losing weight (hopefully Cancer hasn't come back, but will be having a battery of test next week) I think I will just lay off sweets and sweetners completely. Guest guest
This is another little item, an excerpt from the Congressional Record in 1983, from the National Soft Drink Association complaint to Congress about putting NutraSweet in soft drinks: " Aspartame has been demonstrated to inhibit the carbohydrate- induced-synthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin (Wurtman affidavit). Serotonin blunts the sensation of craving carbohydrates and thus is part of the body's feedback system that helps limit consumption of carbohydrate to appropriate levels. Its inhibition by aspartame could lead to the anomalous result of a diet product causing increased consumption of carbohydrates. Guest guest
Ok, gang, now I am thoroughly confused. A while back we were talking about Splenda as a sweetener - What is the difference between Stevia and Splenda? Is Stevia another SAFE product or just another variation of Aspartame or Nutra-sweet? I have cut out most added artificial sweeteners. I never use those little powdered packets at all anymore - and I feel much better for doing that and I never drink anything but unsweetened ice tea, water, or decaf coffee. The only additive I use is Davinci's Hazlenut Syrup about once a week in my decaf coffee for a treat. And now, I'm not sure if that's such a good idea because it lists Aspartame as an ingredient. But, I notice that some things have sugar alcohols listed instead of sugar - what is the difference between an artificial sweetener and sugar alcohols? in Port Orange, FL

Guest guest
I don't know about the AS (artificial sweeteners) stopping your weight loss, but I have read in several different articles that Aspartame is an appetite enhancer (it makes you feel hungrier) and you tend to eat more if you use it, contrary to it's purpose! I understand that Diet RC uses a new AS, altho I havent been able to find it yet round here . Guest guest
Spenda is an artificial product produced in a laboratory by scientists wearing white smocks with little pencil and pen holders in their shirt pockets and crew cuts and beady little eyes. Stevia is a natural product which has been used by Indians in South America for 10,000 years now, and they have not reported any harmful side affects during their 10,000 years test period. So, the bill isn't really out yet for splenda, I don't believe, but it should be now for stevia, I should think. clerk@... wrote: > From: clerk@... > > Ok, gang, now I am thoroughly confused. Guest guest
I found the Stevia can't be used by people that are on the extended lasting nitro medications. It affects the time release. So I am back to my Nutasweet. I really have not had any problems with the Nutrasweet and I have been using it for over 4 years now. Bill Newman -- Rochester, NY wtnewman@... Guest guest
Yes, Diet RC uses splenda as its sweetner that is the trade name for sucrulose. It has been in use in UK and Canada for a few years now. I personally like it as I am alergic to aspartame and you can bake with it and cook with it. The only thing I have found it doesn't work well with is chocolate it stays bitter. Call your local RC/Diet Rite bottler or distributor and find out where they deliver Diet RC. I usually go to Little Rock to get mine direct from the distributor. Guest guest
You re doing a good job so be careful not to change it. I am not on your particular type of extended release nitro but they are all about the same. You just have to watch what you consume that the rate may speed up or slow down with some added foods and medications. Also watch out for critic acid, especially grapefruit. It again affects the extended nitro as well as many of the normally prescribed heart/blood pressure medications. Was a major alert a year of so ago on the use of grapefruit for heart patients. Guest guest
I've read your comments about diet drinks, and I have to tell you, I really need my cokes (RCs or Pepsi). I have cut way back and only drink coke once or twice a day but if I skip my coke, I get fussy, a Coke gives me energy, makes me feel better. Guest guest
Theo, If the aspartame doesn't bother you then it shouldn't matter as long as you are controlling it like you say. I know exactly what you mean and I am alergic to aspartame. I have started buying RC Cola Diet (not Diet Rite), like RC Cola it is sweeter than Coke. I live for the day that Coke or Pepsi brings out a cola sweetened with Splenda (sucrulose) instead of aspartame From one Coke Addict to another. Ann S Re: Sweetners > From: TheoJa@... Guest guest
Meanie, it is a hard thing to find and when you talk to the stores they will point you to Diet Rite which is not the same thing at all. I finally called the distributor who after three times talking to them agreed to sell me the product direct from their plant. It took me about three weeks to actually get my hands on some of it but the trouble was worth it. Ann S Re: Sweetners > > > > > >> From: TheoJa@... Guest guest
You're right, Meenie, I feel bad when I go without my diet coke, I can't get RC diet, I have looked. Alcholism runs in my family, while young I was told that I would probably be an alcholic so I didn't take the chance. I drank coke, then diet coke. I may have addiction but for coke instead. When I changed from coke to diet, I lost ten pounds. Since I have been diagnosed with Two II Diabetes, I have lost another ten pounds. So I don't think Diet Coke is harmful for me and the doctor said it is okay. Theo

Guest guest
When I first was given the presription for Imdur, I was told by the doctor's nurse I could not have grapefruit any longer because it would inhibit the drug's capabilities. I do like to use lemon, though, when I have seafood as I do not use tartar sauce or very spicy seafood sauce which tends to affect my digestion. The lemon doesn't seem to have much affect. in Port Orange, FL In a message dated 99-03-29 12:27:36 EST, you write: << Also watch out for critic acid, especially grapefruit.
