Guest guest
FYI, this is kind of off subject, but not really. The United Steel Workers suffer pulmonary difficulties as a result of their jobs/exposures within an indoor environment. Legislative Report - Volume 1, Issue 1 September 10, 2007 Conyers, fights for the United Steel Workers Congressman Conyers, Jr. , delivered the keynote address at the United Steel Worker’s International Health and Safety Environment Conference. Conyers ’ remarks centered on the declining safety of American workers. “The safety of American workers is under direct attack. We are dealing with an administration that cares more about corporate profits than the health and well being of the American worker. As a result, we are seeing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the federal agency that is supposed to protect Americans from potential hazards on the job allowing dangerous working conditions to persist. This situation has resulted in an increase in workplace injuries and death,†said Conyers. Conyers ended his remarks by calling on steel workers to support new legislation called The Protecting America’s Workers Act, which that would expand OSHA coverage to include state, county and municipal employees that are not already covered by the agency. The bill would also: * Raise penalties for companies that kill or endanger workers * Provide improved protection to Whistle Blowers * Improve the rights of workers and families after a death or injury has occurred * Enhance the public’s right to know about safety violations Sharon ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
