Concerns about finding a new apartment

Hi,

I'm looking for a new apartment/house/condo and am looking for

indications of mold problems. The place I'm currently considering

seems relatively clean, but it has a slab foundation, rooms over the

garage (which Shoemaker seems to advise against), and there is some

dark staining around the edge of the carpet on the stairs. Does

anyone have opinions on whether these should be cause for concern?

I've read that stains at the edge of the carpet is considered

" filtration soiling " and a sign that you need to have your air ducts

cleaned, but I've read that can be harmful too if not done properly.

Everything else in the place looks okay. No signs of water damage,

water staining, no odor, etc.

I've been sick for several years, so I figure I'm probably pretty

sensitive. Any help much appreciated. thanks.
