Guest guest
Which T3 med are you taking? It could be the fillers that are bothering you. I could not tolerate Cytomel, but do very well on the T3 from Womens International with the olive oil filler. >> I take 2 1/2 grains of Erfa and around a month ago my doc had me add 5mcg of t3 due to high reverse t3 numbers. Now I'm experiencing a lot more hair loss than usual. T3 is the only new drug in my medical and supplement regimen.> > Is this normal? and is this something I should just suffer through and will it go away?> > thanks in advance,> > Yvette>

Guest guest
This is my problem too! Even adding a tiny amount of Cytomel to my Synthroid causes hair loss, even though it makes me feel great! The weird thing is that when I stopped the T3, the hair loss continued, just slower. When I add T3 back in, more hair loss. SO I think there is an underlying metabolic stress that T3 worsens. Also I've had some hair grow back in, but it's weird hair, all kinky and gray. This has been the case with name-brand Cytomel, two different generics, and Naturethroid. I'm pretty skeptical that " fillers " have anything to do with it. I don't have any solutions for you since I've been looking for one, myself, for over a year now. But taking hair vitamins makes my hair LOOK a lot better. It doesn't change the rate of loss but it makes my hair smoother and fluffier. I've tried a couple different brands and they all seem the same so I'm betting it's just the biotin in them. good luck, Tierney > > I take 2 1/2 grains of Erfa and around a month ago my doc had me add 5mcg of t3 due to high reverse t3 numbers. Guest guest
Wow, that is not good news. My hair loss has become excessive and t3 makes me feel good too. How long have you been on it? Guest guest
Maybe I should do the opposite and switch to name brand. Guest guest
I first tried the Cytomel over a year ago and noticed hair loss after a few months- never had hair loss before, even when I was very hypothyroid (before diagnosis) or on Synthroid as some will claim T4 only causes hair loss. I was having a LOT of stress in my life too and I think the T3 just exacerbated it. I went off the T3, promptly gained back the 20 pounds I had lost, but hair loss slowed down a bit. Then I had kind of a personal crisis and ended up on Lexapro and Xanax. People on this group may jump on me for this, but those drugs really saved me. I continue to take them, happily, to manage the stressors in my life that I don't have control over at this point. I feel better than I have in a LONG time. So I decided to try the T3 again and see if it would mess with my hair now that I am on the Lexapro/Xanax. I started it again about a month ago, so far not much change in the rate of loss, and my energy and motivation is really improved. I feel motivated to exercise and clean my house- without T3 I have to force myself to do those things. So, I don't really know what the underlying cause was, just that T3 made it worse. (btw I had EVRYTHING tested during this time. Nothing was amiss. Who knows what deep physiologic changes stress can cause? Maybe things we don't even know to test for yet.) My strategy right now is to raise the T3 verrrrry slowly. I started with a tiny crumb broken off of a 5ug tab and over a month I've worked up to 5 ug. I have also tried to re-assess every aspect of my life for hidden stress. For example I was trying very hard to follow a perfect, clean, WAPF diet, and that was causing lots of stress, so I have now allowed for some junk/convenience food back into my life (SOME). I realized my job was causing stress although I never thought of it that way because I am not usually " busy " or " hectic " at my job, but I have a lot of anxiety over what I am going to be doing in the next few years. My little kids are a lot of stress so I've found some new ways to manage them and have my husband help out when I get overwhelmed. etc etc. I wanted to kill the first few doctors that told me it was " just stress " but in the end I decided they were right! sorry for a long story that may or may not have anything to do with your situation. You're the first person I have heard say they had hair loss on T3 so maybe we can compare notes. If it's any consolation, for as long as this has been going on, I still have hair. It doesn't look as good as it used to but I realized it would take a really long time to actually go bald! Tierney > > > > This is my problem too!
