Guest guest
So I called the Environmental Health Services Department and asked what they would or could do when a landlord/owner of a building won't fix mold issues and he stated to me that they won't except any test/lab results from any certified mold inspectors because, and I quote " Mold Inspectors don't exist " . I quickly corrected him and said that it's not that they don't exist it's just that the government does not regulate mold so people like you don't believe or have to acknowledge that they do exist. The guy on the phone said they will only except lab results from an industrial hygienist (but they no nothing about building structures or how to find the source of the mold problem). They mostly know about the science behind what mold is; in layman's terms. So then I called a reputable certified mold inspector who explained to me that there is basically a " war " , sort of speak, between mold inspectors and industrial hygienists (they basically don't like each other). I must say that I have had no problems with any mold inspectors, at least the one that I used to test my apartment back in '05 and the one I spoke with on the phone. Neither company was after me for money. They were very helpful and spoke with me over the phone even if it was just to listen to my story or try to help me find someone who could help me even if they couldn't. I have not personally spoken to or had any testing done by any industrial hygienists but from the comment I got from the EHSD they don't seem like they want to help. I was told by the city (EHSD) that even if I did get tests done by an industrial hygienist that all they will do is send my family (the landlord/owner) a letter stating that they need to fix any leaks because he said that would fix the mold problem. Now we all know that won't fix anything but the leaks. Before all this, I went to the county office to see if I could get any help with moving to another apartment and they said they would help me but only if I get a notarized letter from the landlord/owner (my family) stating that the apartment is uninhabitable. So lets see: the city (EHSD) won't do anything but send my family a letter only after I get tests from an industrial hygienist; my family won't right a letter stating the apartment is uninhabitable because if they do that then they won't be able to rent it out again to some other unsuspecting victim; and the county won't help me until I get a certified letter from my family or the city (EHSD) steps in and declares the building uninhabitable which we know they don't want to do. So tell me what is one to do? The only thing left is to get a lawyer and fight like mad! Fight the city, fight the county, fight my family, keep fighting for my disability, fight for my daughter's health and safety, fight for a safe and healthy environment to live in and fight for what is rightfully mine! MAD AS HELL! AND I'M NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE! And they say America is a free country; NOT!! THEY ARE PUTTING A PRICE TAG ON OUR HEALTH! Dana PS. The mold inspector I spoke with is helping me to find a good lawyer who knows about mold and the system of things (one that is not out just to take your money) and he's not even charging me! (and that's not even his job!)
