Guest guest
I looked up some info about the man who's heading the study. First of all, the grant is for less than a half mil. over two years, so it's not a big study by any means. Second, while I understand the concerns about them coming up with more extensive resources for belittling and downplaying our experience by claiming 'it's all in our heads,' the author DOES have a book he's authored that at initial glance seems to do a spectrum of soup-to-nuts (as it were) of the topic, so I'm somewhat encouraged. I'm going to see if they have a copy of it at the UT library so I can peruse more than the table of contents. It DOES look like he's spent a long time evaluating the difference between depression as a mental condition and depression as a result of physical conditions...and where they intersect. Of course most of us feel defensive because the two get confused so often, and if we report pain has gotten us down we have been dismissed for being weak emotionally rather than being taken seriously to have what is making us sick physically get explored adequately so it can be treated. At any rate, here's the link to the table of contents for the book: http://www.apr-inc.org/pages/efernand_toc.html ~Haley
