Port aux Basques mall closes due to mould

Mould problems have forced the temporary closure of a shopping mall

in Port aux Basques in southwest Newfoundland.

The owner of the Grand Bay Mall discovered the problem during

renovations, town Mayor Button said.

He said the company voluntarily closed the mall to the public.

" It wasn't so much as a smell of mould through the building, but

there was an odour going through the building, " Button said on

Thursday.

" So they just felt the best thing to do would be to have the

facility closed, quarantine the area where the work is taking place

and have the proper testing done. "

It's not known how long the mall will be closed or how severe the

problem is but Button believes it could be open in a day or so.

More than a dozen businesses are located in the building.
