Guest guest
> Could someone explain to me why traction is a BIG No, No? The best reason I can come up with is... because many chiari patients have reported that traction made their symptoms considerably worse, and in some of those cases the symptoms never got better. There are also a number of cases that have been reported where the patient exhibited no significant symptoms of chiari until *after* undergoing traction. > What does it do to the brain that causes more damage? It has the potential cause the cerebellar tonsils to herniate further into the foramen magnum. Sometimes that potential is realized, and symptoms can worsen. > If my neurosurgeon is suggesting something that is > really bad for me, should I be seeing someone else You should get a second opinion no matter what one neurosurgeon says. If you haven't seen more than one, you do need to see another. Earlier you said " They do at least 1 Chiari surgery each month " . Ask what the outcome has been, and push for specific answers regarding length of follow-up. One a month is not a lot, but I'd be looking for quality over quantity anyway. Just because someone does more, doesn't mean they do them better. (it *might*, but I haven't seen a direct relationship) I would exclude surgeons who've only done a couple or a few decompressions. Yes, they have to learn somehere, but ....not on me and not on you:) Chip =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= E-mail: chip@... Everything seemed to hurt worse after that. I tried it for a couple of weeks and just stopped as it was too painful and seemed to aggravate the pain I already had. and, since pain is a message to our bodys that there is something wrrong.........I listened to the message. It is absolutely one of the worst things you can do in my opinion (besides chiro which I had too)! Take care, Barbara in Fla > Could someone explain to me why traction is a BIG No, No?
