Guest guest
Fire damages environmental testing business Wed Sep 19, 2007, 12:55 AM EDTBy Dan Sullivan/Daily News staff GHS http://www.dailynewstranscript.com/homepage/x610338888 WESTWOOD - Fire damaged the inside of an environmental testing business yesterday at 307 Pond St., according to fire officials. Multiple callers to 911 reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of the Envirotest Asbestos Consulting Laboratory at 3:50 p.m., fire officials said. Responding firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building, said Fire Chief Scoble. " There was a lot of smoke damage, " Scoble said. " The fire damage was confined to one office space on the first floor. " Firefighters knocked down the blaze within 15 minutes of their arrival. Scoble said that a large ceiling vent in the room where the fire originated funneled much of the smoke into the building's attic. A dollar estimate of the damage was not immediately available. A fire inspector had yet to determine the cause of the fire late yesterday. Traffic on Pond Street was temporarily blocked off at the intersection of Clapboardtree Street and Circuit Road as emergency vehicles responded to the scene. A sign outside the building indicated the business specializes in soil analysis and air quality testing for lead, mold, asbestos and radon. The building's owners could not be reached for comment.
