Residents Say Apartment Mold Is Making Them Sick

EUCLID, Ohio -- Tenants of an apartment complex said their units are

soaked and potentially dangerous.

Residents living at the Euclid Beach Villa Apartments on Lakeshore

Boulevard said mold is starting to grow in their units, and it is

making them sick.

" It was hard for me breathing, " said Bogarty.

They said it started when an air conditioning unit broke on an upper

floor.

Now water is collecting, mold and mildew are growing, and a family

is worried about their sick father's health.

They said they called the apartment's management for help.

" That was two weeks ago. This is going into the third week. And you

can see this stuff is still here. You can smell it. It's actually

irritating my eyes. He can't sleep in his bed, " Gaynal said

about her father's apartment.

NewsChannel5 called the apartment's management to check on repairs,

but did not get any calls back yet.

The mold in one of the pictures looks very bad. They need to clean those

interior walls themselves,

because all the management is probably going to do is wipe it off with

bleach and paint it over.

When its that bad on the outside of the wall, you can imagine how bad it is

on the inside.

They need to move. When you have a management like that there isn't much

chance of them seeing the light and since there aren't any laws forcing them

to do a remediation, they probably won't volunteer to do it out of the

goodness of their hearts.

This family may have to forfeit the years rent since they probably signed a

lease, or risk ruining their credit forever, but they have to move, or their

health will be ruined.

We really do need national laws making cleanup of both hidden and visible

mold mandatory NOW.
