Guest guest
> so i am going to ask (since i was on the beeper subj) How many of you either carry dept issued pagers? Or are any of you required to carry one @ your own expense? john- we don't have dept issued pagers for ALL of disp/patrol. the dept issues alpha pagers for the entire SWAT team, ADMIN response team for major incidents, ALL detectives, ALL narcotics squad and me. How'd I get so lucky? let's see- I'm in charge of the reverse 911 call out computer, I am the only major incident/hazmat dispatcher, am the 'unofficial' SWAT team dispatcher (ie they don't like the one assigned to the team, so they will call be out as 'inc' dispatcher, and put be on swat also!-multi tasking R I!), I am 1 of 2 people that have a clue how CAD/Record computer system is SUPPOSED to work, and i'm the 'unofficial' disp supervisor (ie not title, no pay, but all the 'responsibility' !!!! pretty much when they issue you a pager, you have to respond. in the off chance that you are not FIT (stop laughing now) for duty, then you still call in and advice of that (hey, we live in the south, in law enforcement, go figure what the alcoholic drinking quotia is for off-duty days!!!). so far it's worked out pretty well-3 yrs and counting-though we have a problem with call out re the cAD system- the guy in charge and i both have LIVES (go figure!), so it's a headache and a half when we go on vacation- think cell phones- can reach us all over the country.............the clink you just heard was the ball and chain........ hope this helps some-shauna, bpd, la __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Every employee of FD has a pager issued. They are to be carried on duty, as CAD will page them out on a call. They MAY be carried off duty and used for personal calls if you desire, but are not supposed to be used for an outside business. I leave mine on my visor, that way when I get ready to come to work, I can see how many runs occurred while I was off, so I know how much work I have to do when I get in. Before retiring at a PD, the chief said he wanted to have the staff officers carry a pager. The POA attorney said only if the dept/city negotiated an overtime wage for carrying it. The chief said he would order all staff to carry them 24/7. The attorney said that they wouldn't work very well after being in a bathtub. After some positions were paid ot for carrying the pagers, the officers would just carry a dead battery if they didn't want to answer a callout. Guest guest
Our department issued us all pagers about 2 years ago. The policy as put out in memo is that any department page is to be responded to within 15 minutes. In actual fact, some respond some don't. Our pager system is notorious for missing pages and for sending out garbled unreadable messages. I think, as everyone is aware of this, sometimes it is convienent to blame a missed call on the pager system. So far, I don't know of anyone being punished or written up for missing a page out.
