Guest guest
i posted this on TT FB Group page, but not here. After having Hypothyroidism all my life with all its symptoms (and I am 69), I finally got an ultrasound of thyroid. Report says 4 nodules, one possible large one an adenoma (which can turn cancerous). Not wanting a biopsy every six months that might not catch cancer anyway on " cancer watch " the rest of my life, I was going to have a Total Thyroidectomy after calming down a few days, and reading recommendations from 2 people with extreme knowledge I trust. Then I see Integrative doc who says, He wouldn't do it, it's a " nodular thyroid goiter " that PCP can't even feel, and " most adenomas don't turn into cancer (adeno-carcinoma), and if they mess up your parathyroids, you will have trouble w/calcium the rest of your life " -- whatever that means). " MOST? " I've already had 5 epithethial cell cancer surgeries (skin cells lining a body cavity - (uterus, vagina x 3 kept coming back, lung + skin), plus have fibrocystic breasts, had ovarian cysts b4 hystero, not a good track record on epithelial stuff, which is what thyroid cancer is too. I haven't talked to PCP yet, that's Monday, will report back. Then I find out usually TT is followed by RAI depending on path report and surgeon's opinion...when I was going to have it out anyway. I must convince PCP first, if he agrees with Integrative doc, tho, he's the " gatekeeper " . I was going to fly to Dallas and use DD's thyroid surgeon, the majority of her practice, small hands really get in to be careful of parathyroids and vocal cords, small scar, ratings above average to excellent, no sanctions, no lawsuits, no reprimands by Tx Bd. Need to know more about RAI, was going to overrule, but nicely, Integrative doc and have TT anyway -- better safe than sorry!. But what will RAI do to my body? I need input from you guys, you are always so helpful. Thanks! Vicki K
