Guest guest
My sister and brother-in-law moved to Costa Rica 3 years ago. Mold grows everywhere there and seems to have infiltrated a music CD player and a DVD player. Is it possible for these units to be cleaned to the point of working well again? Anyone know? Or do they simply have to be replaced? Sis and BIL remember cleaning tapes for VCRs and remember taking VCRs in for the heads to be professionally cleaned, but have no idea what can be done by the amateur or professional electronics person to fix this sort of problem. Actual CDs and DVDs are kept in a " dry room " (closed room with dehumidifier that vents to the exterior of the building) along with computer and linens and a few books, but are brought out for music listening and movie watching with friends in the living room. Pre-recorded material in these formats seems to last well but music CDs burned by friends don't seem to play very many weeks before they're problematic. Sis doesn't seem to have the same genes I do, as the endless mold doesn't appear to bother her, apart from the nuisance value of cleaning belongings and sometimes refinishing surfaces. Any information or advice regarding the electronics would be appreciated.
