Guest guest
Heidi, You can use the IPAD and a communication program without being hooked up to WIFI, so it would probably be the best choice. Plus it's the cheapest. Look into the STAP program if they live in Texas. It will provide a device totally free, and I believe it also covers IPADs. We got a Dynavox through it, and it is a great device, but the IPAD may be better, don't really know. Marilyn

Guest guest
I know the dynovox I needed to apply for a program to get it, plus it seemed that the ipad I could use the apps that Itunes has for autism--that was the biggest determinator for us. I heard of STAP and will look into it. thanks for the suggestion. > > > Yes, definitely. Guest guest
I agree to all the things you said about dinavox. Sadly though they are HEAVY, the screens crack so easy, and it takes weeks to months to get them fixed. So if you have a child that might throw it or hit it in a meltdown or is not strong enouph to carry it then make sure you look and see what elsenis out there. Talk to Marrianna. She has the knowledge. And 2 kids on the spectrum to boot. The STAP pragram is very helpfull. You need a speech theripist recomend. And a assistive tech that can help you try out the devices, Hence again Marrianna. And if you call a dinavox rep and get a dynavox device through STAP and in 2 months find out that is the wrong device you are stuck for 5 years. Be carefull, call an expert in the field not just one company. Durring our process my son tried devices from 5 companies before we settled on one and even then he out grew it with in a year and a half. So we still have it. He loves his I pad and it is hip and with RC cooper (web site.) it has great protection. > >> > >> > Yes, definitely. Guest guest
I'm both a mom of a non-verbal son with autism and a speech pathologist. I have used both the Dynavox with my son as well as many children, and more recently, the iPad. ly, I'd recommend the iPad any day. There are many apps that can be used not only for communication but for everything else under the son. Proloquo2Go is just one of the many AAC apps out there. I teach 2 web classes on iPad, and though I love Proloquo2Go and even use it with my son, you should really check out the other AAC apps which are a fraction of the price of Proloquo2Go. My son had a Dynavox V before he started using the iPad, and it was fabulous, but he likes (and so do I) the iPad much better.
