Emptied of students and staff on Sept. 14 due a mold scare, School

15 will be teeming with activity again next Tuesday, officials

promised yesterday.

" It's been certified by our environmental consultant as a safe

environment, so students can return as soon as possible, " said

Gerard Crisonino, a spokesman for the district. " The school will be

ready and cleaned for the students to return Tuesday. "

Superintendent of Schools T. Epps Jr. announced the news to

about 100 parents at a meeting Monday night at the McLeod

Bethune Center. According to some parents there, the reaction was

mixed.

" I'm sick now from walking through the school last week, " said

parent Drauhn, one of the attendees. " So there are still a

lot of things that's wrong. "

To deal with the concerns of parents, the district is conducting a

tour of the school for them Friday night, Crisonino said.

The gym floor where mold was discovered has been removed and a new

floor will be installed in roughly four weeks, he said.

In addition, the district has painted walls where there was chipped

paint and cleared a drain pipe that was causing backups outside the

Stegman Street building, he said.
