Guest guest
Important -- Federal members, please indicate to me by COB October 10th whether you will give a report on your agency's IEQ-IAQ activities (an Agency update). Our October 17th meeting agenda thus far is as follows: Agency Updates from HUD, NIOSH, GSA, USDA, and EPA (DOE, CPSC, NIST, DOD?). Thank you. Presentation 1: Genesis Air/Government Scientific will discuss " ... Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) as an emerging technology in the HVAC industry that has great potential to have a significant impact on indoor air quality. In addition, it has the potential to limit outdoor air intakes, offering significant energy savings over classical designs. This new layered GAPTM PCO (Patents Pending) methodology uses cost-effective, non- ozone producing UVC Germicidal Irridation, in combination with titanium dioxide coated mesh, to aggressively oxidize and reduce all carbon-based VOC's, airborne mold, bacteria, viruses, and hydrocarbons found in indoor environments. Layered PCO methodology is categorized in ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1 as an IAQ Procedure, which allows the design professional the opportunity to chose an alternative to the prescriptive method, the Ventilation Rate Procedure. GAPTM technology can be used as a stand alone system or incorporated into existing or new HVAC systems. " Presentation 2: Brad Turk of Environmental Building Sciences and the Southern Regional Radon Training Center (Auburn University) will present findings from an exploratory study on the impact of active soil depressurization (ASD) on moisture levels in basements. ASD systems are commonly installed to control indoor radon levels. The field study, conducted in three Pennsylvania homes, found that the systems caused significant seasonal reductions in basement moisture and changed air flow patterns within the houses. Conceptual modeling, technical approach, and analysis of data will be discussed.
