Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone used this product? I'm wondering if it is very effective in removing VOCs and odors. I'm still working on the problem of our stinky mattresses that absorbed bad odors from the moving van. Thanks, Jocelyn http://www.nontoxic.com/activatedcarbonblanket/activatedcarbonblanket.htm
Guest guest
Hi Jocelyn and Everyone.... I'm new to this.... I read the info in the link that you posted with your post. Those products sound like a really good idea. I can't really afford that right now because I've been spending every cent I have on workmen to finish my mold clean-up. I'm getting ready to move back into my home after being out of it for 10 months now. Last winter we had a freeze (on the CA Central Coast) that broke lots of peoples' pipes. It was a hot water pipe that broke and caused a spray leak under my house for about a month before I realized it. Since it was hot water it didn't take long to cause mold to grow so my granddaughter (6) and I were very ill for all that time before we discovered it. And we're still sick from it. ANYWAY... the insurance company and the remediation company that they hired, really screwed everything up. Everybody knows that you have to clean up the water first to keep the mold from spreading, right? Well, I kept telling them that but they kept ignoring me and just cleaned up a little bit of mold that they found inside of the house right above where the pipe had broken. AND they never even went under the house to clean up the water or test for mold! Then they told me that they had already spent as much as they could for mold damage... so I've been going round and round with them about that.... I've had to find ways of getting it cleaned up without hiring contractors.... but researching it and hiring laborers to do a little at a time, as I can afford it. So far, most of the inside is mold-free and ready to move my furniture back in. We have had no other options than to move back in... even while the work was being done... without having the gas turned on too, since I can't afford that. ANYWAY... (sorry to keep getting off track)... I had just bought a new mattress set before this happened and I can't afford to buy another one. So what I plan to do is to use this wonderful product that I've found, called Theives Oil, by Young Living. I'm going to try this.... spray down the mattress and box spring and wrap them each in one of those zip-up mattress covers that keeps out dust mites, etc., hoping that it will keep the mold IN... and while it's in there, it will be killed by the fumes of the Theives Oil. Since it's in oil form and not liquid, it shouldn't encourage more mold grouth, I hope. I've been using the Theives Oil in different forms to get rid of the mold in my home plus using the KILZ paint on all the walls. I can't afford to replace the " new " carpenting and flooring that I had just spent $7,000 on a few months before this happened and to use bleach on it would have ruined it... so I used the Theives Oil Household Cleaner in the carpet shampooer and it seems to have worked like a charm.... and the house smells wonderful! (The Theives Oil is a combination of different natural oils, some of which are cloves, cinamon, plus many more, so it smells really good!) I became a distributor for Young Living so that I could get the products at wholesale prices since I knew I would be using a lot of it. But if anyone else has any info on getting mold out of mattresses, I would greatly appreciate it. Nice to meet all of you. I've been reading up a storm, learning very much from your posts. Guest guest
Don't move anything back into the house untill you have lived in it long enough to figure out if it is making you sick-this will be difficult if you are still sick-mold toxin will go right through covers on mattresses. camping cots at wall-mart or other stores are very cheap an will suffice . the home may still be contaminated. spraying and covering mattresses will only work if you are well and not sensitive to mold toxin. we would all be happy campers if there was a magic bullet we could spray at the problem. > >
Guest guest
Hi, I'd be concerned about the remaining toxins from the dead mold after you spray the mattress, even if you put a mattress cover on it. We got rid our moldy mattresses when my mother's house was ruined by water and mold. We walked away from almost everything in the house that was not wood that could be refinished. After getting info on this list and the Indoor Air Quality list, we thought it best to save our health and get rid of most everything. Consumer Advocates at Policyholders of America helped up to get the insurance company to do the right thing and pay for the water/mold loss. I hope you are able to recover from your loss! Sounds like you need to file a complaint with the Insurance Commissioners office since the remediation workers did bad work. We had the same problem with our house. Seems like your insurance company should pay for your carpeting and beds, etc. Jocelyn
