Guest guest
Workers nervous about mould as mall reopens Friday, September 28, 2007 CBC News- Newfoundland & Labrador - St. 's,Newfoundland,Canada* http://www.cbc.ca/canada/newfoundland- labrador/story/2007/09/28/mould-mall.html A shopping mall in Newfoundland and Labrador has reopened after briefly being closed because of a mould problem, although workers are anxious. The Grand Bay Mall in Port aux Basques was closed Wednesday afternoon after a strong odour went through the building. The company that runs the mall said it was removing mould in an old grocery store at the time, and that the area has been sealed. Wall, who works at the Riffs store, said air quality in the mall has been bad for years. " You come in here in the mornings, and you're fine, " she said. " Before you leave in the afternoon you're dragged out, you're tired, you got a headache and they'll say it's nothing to do with this? Don't believe it. " Continue Article Optometrist Doug Coultier said the smell from the uncovered mould was overpowering. " I would try to breathe [and] I found it was very, very difficult, " he said. " Even after I left the mall, I found for several hours I had difficulty with my throat. Until we really know what's going on I don't think we should have anybody in here. " Worker Norma Lawrence said she wants air quality tests done to prove the mall is safe. " I want to know right now, is this a safe place to work? If we should be here or not, " she said. " That should be our bottom line right now. " An occupational health and safety inspector was at the mall on Thursday afternoon
