Guest guest
Whole Foods has ordered a case, six powdered Kashi-Go-Lean containers for me. Kashi-Go-Lean builds lean muscle mass. I mix it with rice milk and add almond butter or peanut butter to the shakes. I eat lots of avocados. I have also taken probiotics since 1995. Several years ago one of my sons gave me the book, Healthy Aging, by Dr. Weil. I try to eat all the heart healthiest foods. I"m impressed. What's Kashi go lean? Where do you find that? I need to build muscle mass ..big time..where do you find rice milk? how expensive is it? What does it taste like? Where do you find almond butter? Guest guest
Hey, Norma, you sure are on the right track. Raw nuts are great, too: almonds, walnuts, pistashios (? spelling), cashew, pecans, hazel nuts, and Brazil nuts. We're vegetarians except for wild caught seafood and some dairy and organic free range eggs, so we eat lots of the foods you mentioned all the time in addition to tofu, miso, some soy milk, edamame, etc. My girls eat lots of the meat analogs but Dr. Weil says whole soy foods are much better for us, so and I limit burgers, dogs, and other more processed soy foods. Costco and Trader Joe's have high quality frozen wild caught salmon and other fish types which we like at good prices. Never heard of the Kashi-go-Lean but have eaten Kashi cereals. Thanks, Kay -------------- Original message -------------- Kay, I eat salmon, primarily canned with bones in it, since I have osteoporosis. I ate a lot of sardines when I was young but have not tried them recently. I take Nordic Naturals pharmaceutical grade fish oil that I buy at Whole Foods. I also grind my own flaxseed in a coffee grinder that I also purchase whole at Whole Foods as well as taking flaxseed oil. Guest guest
Kay – You mention Dr. Weil. I am a big fan of his – I love that he is a Harvard schooled Medical Dr. that uses Alternative choices. Have you tried anything he has recommended that you feel has been of help, besided the Nordic Naturals. From: bronchiectasis [mailto:bronchiectasis ] On Behalf Of ericnkayn@... Do you eat fatty fish like salmon and sardines? Try both and fish oil, too. It's really good for the lungs and heart and breasts, they say. I get Nordic Naturals (in a pretty dark blue glass bottle), recommended by Dr. Weil, whom I've been following for years. Have you tried starting heavy doses of probiotics before and during the times you take antibiotics? They should help quite a bit. I take them with keifer or yogurt and get the benefit of the good bugs in those foods, too. Kay -------------- Original message -------------- Hi Marilyn and Sandie, Thanks for your suggestions regarding weight gain products. I started back on the weight gain diet that my first dietitian gave me. I was using Carnation Instant Breakfast which is available at most grocery stores. I put it in the blender with almond butter or peanut butter for good fats. I also eat walnuts and almonds on my cereal in addition to yogurt. One of the respiratory therapists told me that I would more likely get pneumonia if I went on a high dairy diet which produces more mucus, but I know that I have to regain the weight I lost. If I do get pneumonia, I loose about 5 to 7 lbs as the IV antibiotics cause me to have diarrhea. My pulmonary doctor is very concerned about my weight loss, and I am too. The vanilla is more versatile since I can add fruits like blueberries, bananas, strawberries, etc. I was told by my infectious disease doctor, whose husband is a gastroenterologist in the same group practice as mine, to avoid chocolate and mint as she thinks that I may have silent GERD. There goes my Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies due to arrive next month. I take Prilosec OTC just as a precaution on her advice and my gastroenterologist. Thank you both for your good advice. Marilyn - When I go to Chicago again, I will ask my son or daughter to take me to St. . My daughter lived in Naperville and several western Chicago suburbs for several years but now lives in Wheeling. My son lives near Wrigley Field but is moving to ton where his office is located.
