Somethings I keep forgetting to ask:

does or should taking thyroid medication cause the thyroid to shrink

in size? Why?

Once thyroid medication is stopped, how long until the thyroid starts

working on its own again?

Yes taking full replacement of thyrodi meds does cause the thyroid to

shrink, mainly as it is no working. From what I have read, even after

years on thy5roid replacement the thyroid will return to working as much

as it can in 6-9 weeks. There was a study done (in animals I htink) wiht

normal thyroids and when thyroid was given in replacement doses their

thyroids still returned to normal function fully after 9 weeks after

withdrawing all meds.

Val, probably you've noticed the comments i've written about selenium

and how I think selenium deficiency is my 'root' problem of being

intolerant and non-responsive to thyroid meds and the reason why I

have adverse reactions to selenium.

anyway, I was doing a test. I stopped thyroid meds and took only

selenium to see if maybe I didn't really need thyroid meds. But after

about 5 days without meds I decided it was better to slowly add back

in t3. I seem to have adverse reactions to thyroid meds at a dose of

20 mcg t3 and the adverse reaction gets worse at this dose if I add in

selenium. I'm currently at 10 mcg t3 plus selenium.

From what I've read, a dose of say only 10 or 15 mcg t3 is so low it's

like taking nothing at all.

If I'm right about only needing selenium and not thyroid hormone would

I need to wait a full 6-9 weeks for my thyroid to start working again

once stopping thyroid meds in order to really evaluate the success of

taking selenium only?

long and winded question but do you understand my point?

I hear what you are saying and I suspect it wold not take that long for

your thyroid to start working agian as it is not totally supressed oon

the doses you have been taking.
