Hi,

We're having a sewer gas problem off and on in the condo we're

renting. I got really sick Tuesday and thought I would throw up.I

talked to my doctor about it.

My mother smelled it too.

The property manager wants a note from my doctor saying that the sewer

gas made me sick. Which seems ridiculous to me.

The land lord is dragging their feet to investigate.

What agency do I contact to report the land lord and get the problem

of sewer gas investigated?

The Health Dept? I'm in San Diego County.

Thanks'

Jocelyn

First off would be the sewer utility. But if there is such a problem, it's

most likely beyond their responsibility, even in a common area. Should read:

It's the landlord's baby. As to the note from a doctor, what the hell would

that accomplish?? And just what doctor could make that determination from

afar???

Yes, the County Health Dept. is an option, if they care. The other option is

the Calif. Dept. of Fair Employment and Housing, if you can prove any type

of discrimination. Bottom line, don't trust anyone, and don't take no for an

answer. Biff Byrum

My Mom also gets some type of sulpuric smelling gas problem when she

uses her small bathroom sink faucet. What can that be? She has city

water.

Sounds like sewer gas. It is explosive and bad for health. A good

plumber can diagnosis it.

Jocelyn,

I would first check all your traps under the sink, especially ones

that you may not use often, just make sure they have water in them.

If you can't get out right away you don't want to be inhaling that,

so my next step would be blocking all the drains with a wet cloth.

Yes, I do know this is just basic first steps.

You can try the State Health Dept. if you don't have any help with

the local. Another thought I'd be calling the fire station and let

them come out and check. I would think they would be able to give

you some quick and most likely accurate answers. One other thought

is the gas company. All the above should help you find out where

they problem may lie because now you are putting it in their hands.

Then you have something to take to your landlord if they don't move

to correct the situation. You can get very sick, don't spend another

minute breathing in these fumes.
