New York University Hosts International Forum on Theatre for Young Audiences NEW YORK, NY (March 12, 2012)†" New York University is hosting the Forum “Which Way TYA? New Directions for Theater for Young Audiences†on April 27-29th, 2012. The Forum, convened by NYU guest professor and former Unicorn artistic director Tony Graham, is designed for TYA practitioners, researchers in TYA and applied theatre, educators, and students of educational theatre. The weekend-long event will offer panel discussions, workshops, and narratives, as well as opportunities to see current theatre for young audiences in New York City at special ticket prices. Keynote speakers for the event include Dr. Gerd Taube, the Director of the Federal Republic of Germany's Children and Youth Theatre Centre in furt; Obie-award- winning playwright Enda Walsh; and Drury, founder of the unique children's cultural centre in Dublin known as The Ark. The Forum will also feature talks by and with TYA-UK Chair Steve Ball, CTC artistic director C. Brosius, and Manon van de Water, director of the International Theater for Young Audiences Research Network, among many others. Mr. Graham notes: “I think that all our work, whether in the classroom or in the theater, asks the same question: how much of our work is ‘ought,’ and how much is driven by art?†The forum will examine key issues in the future of TYA, including: • Cultural translation in TY A • Self-censorship and morality • The role of the playwright and the dramaturg in new works • New trends and innovation in TYA, including Theatre for the Very Young • Issues of participation and youth in professional TYA Mr. Graham added: “At the Forum, we’re going to be blasted with a whole lot of fresh thinking, and we'll see more clearly where we want to be heading!†Organizers of the Forum will be updating their blog, at http://nyutyaforum.blogspot.com/, with news and updates leading up to the event.
