Guest guest
Hi , Sounds like you need some support at this point. I'm in the Sacramento area too. After a successful 25 year old career I had to leave because of a the sick building. It has been a huge transition but I had a lot of people to guide me to getting the appropriate medical help. If you would like to meet for a coffee let me know. You need to talk out your options Christi
Guest guest
Dear , Working for the government, I'm not sure if you would have a union. If so, contact the union stewart and find out who else has the same concerns you do. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to contact an attorney.... actually 2 of them... one for Workers Comp. and another one, a Personal Injury Attorney who deals with environmental issues. There should be a listing in your phone book for an organization who can refer you to the right kind of attorney and give you a couple of choices of names. I hope Sacramento County isn't like San Obispo County, where the attorneys don't seem to acknowlege mold cases because they don't make any money off of them. But if you ask them if they are interested in a class action case (involving other employees whom have been affected), they might pay attention... especially if it's against the state. But at least Workers Compensation would afford you some protection against them taking retalitory action against you, since they're not allowed to fire you for filing a case with work comp... and your retirement would seem to be protected. Just make sure to make that one of the main focuses when you talk to the Wk. Comp. office or your attorney. I hope this has helped. I'm not an attorney or someone who specializes in this sort of thing, but I have been through the whole mold thing with my homeowners insurance (still) ... and had a work comp. case against an employer for causing me to inhale chemicals years ago... and I used to be the children's attorney for some of the CA Indian tribes (I.C.W.A.), but now retired. If anyone else has any further info or updated info please feel free to pass that along as well. Guest guest
Hi Christi, I could actually use some suggestions on how to get the medical help I need, since in the San Obispo area, where I live, the doctors won't even repeat the word " mold " when quoting to me when they write my complaints in my chart. I've been going through this, living in different buidings, in this area, with mold in them, while I was renting... and unable to make the landlords clean up the mold. So, when I bought my own home, I made sure to have it inspected professionally before I bought it, just to make sure. Then a pipe broke last winter under my home causing a huge spray leak for about a month before I realized it, and it got myself and my granddaughter very ill. I just thougth that we had a terrible case of the flu that wouldn't go away. The insurance company hired their own people to clean it up but didn't even take care of drying it up under the house... not any mention of water damage at all (even though I have excellent water damage coverage) ..... and just cleaned up a small area of mold inside, right above where the pipe had broken... then the mold kept growing under my house where it was still wet. And then the insurance company said that all they cover for mold damage is $5k, which they had already used up for cleaning up the little bit inside of the house, leaving the house torn up and not cleaning up the water under the house! It's so crazy... I even filed a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner... but they haven't done much of anything yet... since June. We've had to move back into our home since we would be homeless right now if we hadn't. Meanwhile, my granddaughter and I continue to get sicker and sicker. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi , If you are in CA and want to stay in the state, there are many environmental doctors that do indeed know what sick building exposures can do to human health. When I first went out I saw Dr. Gunnar Heuser in southern CA. He is a neurotoxicologist who knows mold exposures and chemical intolerance well. I believe he has moved his practice to Santa Barbara. That might be an option to check into. I'm in northern CA now and I saw Dr. Marinkovich who unfortunately has recently passed but I received a letter from his office today stating that they are suggesting that his patients might try Dr. Madill who is in Sebastopol. I haven't explored this option yet but I understand he worked under Dr. Marinkovich and respected his work. If you are willing to travel and have the funds there are other doctors as well. Have you read Mold Warriors yet by Dr. Shoemaker? Christi
Guest guest
That sounds nice and would love to talk with someone that has already gone through this. Our union is about worthless in my opinion and hasn't done anything about this, although I know that several people have gone to them in the past for help. Worker's Comp denied claims for the original claimants in regards to the mold issues, so would not go anywhere either. Now I just called the Emergency line for BOE and they are moving everyone to another state department, which is 25 miles further away frome. The traffic on that end of town is horrible at any time of the day, but especially bad after 5:00 p.m. It usually takes me 2 or more hours to arrive home in the afternoon because of the back logged traffic from accidents or whatever. The light rail I can take, but that adds another hour or more onto that commute as well. All of this has been such a nightmare and it seems like it is just becomming worse. I have contacted an attorney that is already handling the problem and seeing an outside physcian that deals with allergies. If BOE makes it bad for me so be it, it's already bad enough as it is so any more wouldn't be any worse. I'm about ready to just give it up and retire early. I don't want to make that horrible commute on a daily basis, when I can find something else closer to home. > > Hi , > Sounds like you need some support at this point.
